Crypt of Broken Hill

In the Kuan region - the Empire, Taurien Republics, Esereti Dragon Kingdoms, Olian, Golam and Fae lands and beyond in Damamallia and the Lizard Kings dominion are various lost and buried ruins of the Demon Age. These ruins are referred to as "crypts" though few are actually tombs.

North of the Imperial frontier town of Soojun are a line of hills composed of basalts, in columns and sheets. These Hills are called "the Crags". One hill has had a south eastern breakdown of exposed basaltic columns. Recently a section has collapsed and exposed the broken edge of an ancient crypt of Demon Age material unlike the stone, brick, glass or metal known today. The broken wall has a hard stone character, and a glassy blue opaque appearance. Pickaxes score the material but don't break it. The break is wide enough to allow a single normal human size or smaller to squeeze through in normal clothes.

We arrived in the late morning after a few hours travel. A hill, like the others with low scrub oak on it's sides and a bare top. The southern side is broken away and exposes a series of natural basalt columns running up the side with cracks and fissures and broken off bits scattering the ground. A recent breaking and fall away on the south east has exposed a small cave.  We readied lanterns and found the cave about three meters deep and ending in a blue, glassy stone surface  which has a section that appears blasted and is fractured.  The fracture is narrow and passed into a larger space. We had to strip off armor and packs to pass thru the fissure, passing equipment in to those who had entered.

Design

The lowest 'ground level" section is accessed via the fracture in the south east corner. This opens into a chamber that is blackened with scorch and burned material. Whatever was once in this room is now blackened slag and ashes. Scattered over the floor are jagged shards of the blue glassy material of approximately 6-8 inches across. There is an exit opposite the fracture - an arched doorway about 8 ft tall..
Beyond the arch is a hall, going west. It leads to chambers containing what appear to be sarcophagi standing up vertically. They are crafted of metal with designs of suns, moons, tentacled many headed creatures with jaws / mouths above and below eyes. The eyes have tentacles. Inside are bodies, wrapped in fabrics inscribed with strange runes. There are gems making a line around the inside the sarcophagi just below the lids.
We reached to examine the body and try to pry loose one of the gem stones. This caused the body to stir. It has three arms, the undersides of which have small tentacles and spines projecting from the wrappings. It stands on three legs, similar to the arms. There are no feet. The bulbous head is on a long neck and has a frill of small waving tentacle feelers. It lashed out and sent Ongu flying across the room. Another arm wrapped around Jahzi and squeezed, as it pulled itself from the box. Our quick sword attacks bounced off the thing....

Architecture

The structure is of a blue, opapque glassy hard stone material that resists pickaxes. From within and in small spaces outside in the basalt shell - it may be determined that the structure is a step pyramid with three platform levels on the roofs of lower levels. Four sets of stair ascend on each side on the outside. Each level is not accessible from the other levels physically, but contain "doors" that open on the next or lower levels. The uppermost level contains four once vertical flat column "doors" around a flat table of black icy cold stone with spiral carved pillars of the blue glassy material in the corners that spill onto the table surface. Strange writing covers the black surface. Two of these "doors" are broken and tipped over on the table.
RUINED STRUCTURE
The structure was apparently swallowed in lava in the Tumult approximately 10,000 years ago
Founding Date
Demonic Age - over 10,000 years ago
