Deadlords/ Deadkings

They lay in the tombs and chambers, undead and guarded by their minions and servants. They do not dwell in the bodies. Instead they make their homes in the Umbral Reflections of their cities, half remembered glory and half decayed ruin. The phantom streets are inhabited by the other spirits skulking and scurrying from place to place lest they become prey for the tables of the Deadlords. They have been this way since the Shadow Period nearly 4000 years ago. (Taurien History).  Also see Damamilia before the Fall.

And so they sleep, but awaken instantly if any one of the fetters tied to their passion or body is disturbed. The Minions are powerful but the DeadLord Priest-Kings themselves wield antepex of epic or legendary force (rank 6 or 7).

Basic Information

Anatomy

The dead bodies do not decay, nor heal. Though they are repaired by magically crafting bone and skin as if it was wood. The Priest-Kings are said to be able to restore their bodies even from ashes, though it takes them many days.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The dead do not need to eat necessarily.  But the draw of the memory of meals and drink, and the power of raw flesh and fresh blood are almost irresistible. Sometimes their wrath or hungers may be waylaid by a slave or others thrown to the Deadlord, or offerings of wine and alcohol.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Damamilia was a Magocracy where the most powerful and cunning ruled.  That only became worse when they became the Deadlords.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Deadlords are Umbral spirits with spirit vision. Light and dark make no difference to them, though sunlight weakens them. The lesser forms have weaker vision, only able to make out shapes and forms within 15 meters. The Warriors can see twice that and the Deadlord Priest-Kings have vision as mortals for distance. Their hearing is weaker but stronger sense of smell - especially the smell of fresh blood.  Likewise the senses of touch and taste are dulled, but the juices of life are full of flavorful vitality and stand out- the fresher and more alive, the better.

Civilization and Culture

Naming Traditions

Their names seem strange to the imperial ear, as is their language which is only vaguely similar to the spectrums spoken by living Titans.  The Old Damamilia names like Hamon, Kearona, Ryllae, Ilifiel, Estelar, Shalaevar, Tanathil, Oloris, Dormenor, Ilirel, Laeroth or Ilibanise.  Clans like Priaakos, Baltsandros, Averneithes, Ganeus, Apetrios, Demios, Inukas, Creteimon, or Darreon.

Major Organizations

Each Priest-king in their tombs and ruins is a nation state...or was.

History

There has been no recorded "history" in Damamilia since the Deadlords arose.  They don't much discuss Damamilia before the Fall.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

The small, quiet and respectful usually do not attract the attention of the Deadlords.  Anything living that they respond to should either be heroic, fast or lucky.  Flesh and blood are rare feasts and sacrifice to feed the antepex on new death is always desired.

Average Height
The Deadlords, like the Titans are tall - 4 to 6 meters. Taller is frequently associated with power. There is rumor of a stunted runt of a Deadlord called Balmaris that is only about 3 meters tall and wiped out a company of would be tomb raiders.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
The skin is dark, leathery and shades of blue with red around the eye and the lips.  The spiney hair is black.

These sound terrifying - I love the imagery in the first paragraph. I definitely would not want to disturb one of these in their dwellings.

I dig the idea that these creatures live in stagnant memories from their cities over to wanting to eat certain things. A power that neither grows nor decays and has existed since (~4000 years ago). However, the article leaves me with one big question: how did the deadlords come to be? I guess with their history not being easily found, not many would know this (and probably not want to know either).
