Session 5: Of Bacon & Battle

General Summary

The day was growing into the night as the party of explorers made camp among the ruins of the gatehouse. During the night the land was deadly quite yet for the sounds of crows at the edge of the forest. By daybreak, the camp began eating breakfast and talking among themselves when an alarm was shouted as skeletons of the dead began to appear along the walls and the gatehouse.
   With the appearance of the undead among the gatehouse and the party uneased by the undead a battle ensued. The battle began as archers on the wall began raining arrows down on the group as a shield wall was formed at the gate. Many of the undead fell to spell and blade before a much more powerful foe appeared. From the very ground behind the shield wall, a dual-wielding battle-axed warrior appeared. It passed the failing shield wall and began to take the fight to the group. During the fighting Geoff Whalerman scaled the wall and made a mad running leap down on the Warrior with his pickaxe. After he recovered from the jump and looked back at the Warrior he found that his attack had no effect at all on this undead being. Only movements later Geoff Whalerman was sent to the ground in a heap of pain and suffering by the Warriors attacks. The creature fought off the group as it was pelted with magical stones and spells, yet it never left its gaze on the poor man below its feet. The Warrior drawing on arcane powers began to drain some of the life forces of Geoff Whalerman and brought back some of the fallen members of the shield wall.
    The with renewed energies of the group to save Geoff Whalerman they brought low the undead defending the gatehouse and the mighty Warrior. After the battle was over many of the group sought to save poor Geoff Whalerman. His bruised and battered body was still breathing and with some aid from the healers of the group was able to return to a nearby camp. He was stable enough and will likely recover except that something was off about his skin color and the fact that the blows he took would have killed anyone else.
    With the group tending to the wounded and close enough to run to for help, the goblin ranger scouted beyond the gatehouse with the help of the warlock's sprite. Having found many ruined buildings she entered a small section that had yet to collapse. What was found piqued the ranger's curiosity and being wise enough to seek the help she needed. With their help, they returned to the group before they came back inside to assist with removing some rubble to see what was below. Underneath the rubble were the broken remains of some kind of humanoid statue. Within its arms were a child wrapped up in a bundle also petrified. See as the body was already broken beyond identifying they took the baby bundle and retreated out of the ruins.
    The health of Geoff Whalerman was in question and the group weary of staying near the ruins brought the group to return to White Gold Hot Springs. Another day passed as the group feasted and rested. With the help of the new inhabitants of the settlement, they began sowing a field and planting an unknown seed from the Sage of Underknoll. A rudimentary sluice gate was made by the spring to allow irrigation of the farm fields. As time went on the group was ready once again to travel and with new magical and mundane items acquired from the gatehouse they had to make a choice on where to go.
