Consular Epistle 27
The Consular Epistles (letters) are a collection of personal missives written by the original two founding Consuls of Gurrat, Khanis Lhu'ohk and Akis Blad, and addressed variously to each other, friends, and political associates. The collection of 79 letters was published by the Gurratan historian, Riwe Kwadzo, in 15 HE, two Sekoran years after the nation's founding.
[Translated from the original Sugranese.] TORGATH CITY, 17th day of Month 31, 13 HE. TO: CONSUL A. BLAD Worshipfully unbosomed, My scouts have reported that the Grand Mother has moved forces to the northern banks of the Ajisa River. It seems inevitable that Sugran blood will be spilled. Sleep has evaded me and my stomach is twisted knowing I may kill friends and elders, but I have never once wavered in our cause, for it is just and righteous. The coming battle will likely decide this war for independence. The Torgathians and the elders have no taste for blood. Once Grand Mother Bea witnesses our undying devotion to the Gurratan cause, and that we are willing to create weapons of war to murder fellow Sugrans and sacrifice our own lives for the cause, she will acquiesce to our demands. I regret that in the succession of tumultuous events following the start of this current conflict I have had so little time to plan for the future, being that I am always so completely focused on the present. Therefore, I feel I should leave a few words for you to read lest I become no more. You must learn and be honest with Chellok. Do not avoid frankness to make an ally or keep one. If you disagree with anyone, tell that person, not others. We should live and act in honor and duty. As for duty, let me remind you that nearly 200 Sekoran years ago there was a nearly perfect alignment of all of Sekora's moons. The Tregov Doors opened. They brought darkness like an eclipse. They rained down torment and panic. Then an old teacher and the philosopher who helped push our movement forward, Granov Lis, said that if the last day on Chellok had come, he wished to be found in his place of duty. There was a gravitas and a quietness in that elder's mind, a stillness of wisdom and utter devotion to duty. Carrying out your duty is all anyone could ever hope to achieve, no more, no less. That we travel again on The Crescent of Finality, SIGNED: CONSUL KHANIS LHU'OHK
