Insomnia and other sleeping disorders
Insomnia is pretty common in the CHG for quite a few reasons:
The pre-Jeff planets, which already existed for long periods of time before terraforming and colonisation, don't give half a turd about the mental well-being of those who fling themselves onto them.
Bio-spheres (imagine living your entire life inside a massive spherical space ship) might run on clocks with their lights but those clocks aren't always perfect.
Post-Jeff planets, which are the most Earth-like (or even better than Earth in terms of habitability), are created to have roughly 24 hour days. ROUGHLY.
Combine this with the fact that many people have both day and night shifts at multiple jobs, space ships often blaring their lights like there's no tomorrow when they pass overhead, nearby planets having cities that glow hella bright at night and each other's lights keeping one another's inhabitants awake, the fact that some people's neighbors are assholes and so on, you get pretty common sleeping issues.
Transmission & Vectors
One person who cannot sleep and is feeling like being an asshole stays up and plays loud music or doesn't wear headphones on the future-netflix. Their neighbour is kept up and the next night tries to take revenge, but also ends up keeping other neighbours awake. And so the circle of tiredness begins.
Causes
Not going to sleep at suitable times or being told something so weird/thought provoking/sad/etc that it just keeps you up at night.
Symptoms
Tiredness and not tiredness. Then all the negative effects of tiredness like poor cognitive and social skills.
Treatment
Sleeping at the right time, often with the aid of sleeping pills.
Prognosis
Never getting it treated and only getting some sleep when you get fired from that job where you have a night shift for slamming the stamp onto the table instead of the document without realising.
Sequela
Angstiness, need for coffee or other caffeine source, depression,
Affected Groups
EVERYONE MUST SUFFER
Prevention
Well it's a little difficult in this future when one often needs to spend large quantities of time working, there's too much glowy stuff everywhere and night-time only lasts 3 hours, but sleep is the way.
History
Insomnia has probably existed for about as long as people have. Actually scrap that I'm pretty sure animals get it too. There were probably dinosaurs tiredly trying to keep up with their herds because some asshole cricket decided to do it's song right next to its ear and then living in eternal agony as their body clocks are forever out of place.
Cultural Reception
Coffee and tee. Wars have been fought over these substances. In the modern CHG, the solution comes in pills that allow an individual to keep working for 48 hours without negative health effects so long as the thing they do only requires a tiny bit of brain-work as it puts most of the brain to sleep or other pills that make each bit of sleep count for much more. VR headsets are commonly used as they put the body to sleep but aren't entirely effective unless you meditate within the simulations as they don't put the brain to sleep.
