A cockatrice is a two-legged dragon-like creature with a rooster's head. The cockatrice was said to be generated from an egg laid by a cockerel and hatched by a serpent or toad. (Not to be confused with the
Basilisk, born when the egg of a serpent or toad is hatched by a cockerel).
Abilities
The cockatrice has the reputed ability to kill people by either looking at them, breathing on them. The weasel is the only animal that is immune to the glance of a cockatrice. The creature can fly using the wings on its back.
Historical basis
The cockatrice was first mentioned in the Bible in Isaiah chapters 11, 14 and 59.
