Skin-Morph

Even though they are mistaken for demonic creatures or people with shape-shifting magic, Skin-Morphs actually have origins with Fae. Myths and household stories say that Skin-Morphs stemmed from a tribe of humans that the Fae blessed in their favor. They were chosen to be one with nature and the animals that inhabit it.   Skin-Morphs are able to use their gifts of being in tune with other living beings. Usually with the assistance of an amulet or trinket, Skin-Morphs are able to change between different forms, usually other animals. Once a form is chosen, it cannot be forgotten. Only highly accomplished Skin-Morphs are able to learn multiple forms, the average amount being only three or four.   Out of fear of the demonic, Skin-Morphs have been wrongly hunted down in past centuries by humans. Their numbers have dwindled and it is very rare to come across one today. They tend to live in hiding due to this traumatic past.

History

First and foremost, it must be noted that all Skin-morphs derive from humans. In most cases, they will be born, raised, and present as humans. Some may even never chose a second form in their lifetime.   It has been theorized that Skin-Morphs stemmed from an ancient tribe of humans who were blessed by the Fae. Stories say this tribe of humans were fiercely protective of nature and animals. Some say they would even attempt to learn how to speak with animals and plants. The Fae were said to be charmed by this and gave the tribe their blessings. Through these blessings, they were then given the ability to change into the animals they sought to communicate with.    While historians have not been able to entirely confirm that this myth is the true origin of Skin-morphs, there have been several loose pieces of evidence that describe this scenario as the most likely. There have been several artifacts from an ancient tribe depicting the worship Fae-like beings. There have also been traditions upheld by Skin-morphs for many generations that tell the same story.
