Exemplars

Not long after the founding of The Ievlen Empire , after the death of Godking Faust Cenodoxia, The council there created a group of specialized military personnel with a speciality for guarding the new monarchs life, whomever that would be. They would be known as Exemplars, for nothing less would be tolerated.

As such, The Exemplars were founded around the same time as the The Heroes Guild. In fact, those who showed promise within the Heroes Guild, were often recruited by the Council of the empire in order to grow the ranks of the Exemplars. To this effect, those a) with a record of showing loyalty to a cause, b) who went above and beyond for the ideals of justice and the preservation of civilization, and finally, c) those who are trained and highly skilled with more subtle weapons, with the choices stock for the Exemplars.
Because of the difficulty it takes to ascend to this rank within the empire, the exemplars have persisted through time. Currently, the Exemplars still serve the current Patriarch, Lord Thyreon Irivel, 13th of his name. they command and oversee the Blackguard, but otherwise rarely insert themselves in civil matters. Instead, they attend to the wishes of their Patriarch. This has caused the Exemplar’s duties to shift in time to suit whomever their current master may be.
In present day, the Exemplars serve as a secret police whose duty revolves around immortalizing their Lord. A great many Exemplars then find themselves away from the empire in pursuit of such magics in possibilities. In fact, many more Exemplars gain the ire of other nations due to the links that they are trained to go. Were it not for the military strength of the Ievlen Empire, more nations would more openly challenge the exemplars efforts, or as some would call them, transgressions. But the power of this nation, as well as their allies, which some suspect to be the The Carrion Crown, makes them a difficult nation to approach with diplomacy.
Among these alleged crimes that the exemplars have, once more--allegedly, committed, are the theft of several rare books and grimoires, magical artifacts, and renowned scholars in the fields that study the soul.
