Black Toad
Black toads are four-legged amphibians with dry skin, warts, crests above and behind the eyes, and back legs made for leaping. They grow to about 17 cm. Black toads puff up their bodies with air to look bigger and to expel air in a mating call. Their dark coloring with non-symmetrical spots is due to high melanin and exposure to purple sicklevine.
Black toads are eaten by bogfish and knifebill gulls.
