Session 0 – Feebs

General Summary

It's a warm sunny Unndilar morning and Figlorn Village is awash with activity as everyone prepares for the "Zenith" holiday coming in just a couple of days on the 26th day of Unndilar. Feebs of course, is no exception, as he helps move things about as much as he is able although his heart and determination are much larger than his muscles. "Out of the way Feebs!" he hears Kraq shout at him. "I swear if you were any smaller I'd have stepped on you! Go help with the signs instead - at least you know how to spell better than anyone in the village."   Feebs starts to object but Kraq just shoves him out of the way.   Feebs skulks away, somewhat dejected but he he neverr was the strongest or of the best of health - that's why they named him "Feebs" afterall.   He wanders over to where the there is an array of pre-cut panels of wood and buckets of paints for making signs for the festival and sets about helping with that. Kraq is right, he may not be very strong of body but he is the smartest Goblin in the village. Most of the others can only speak Goblin but Feebs can write it too, and Common! Strength isn't everything!   But after awhile, Feebs gets bored and wanders up the hillside near the village where the fireworks display will be setup later. From there he has a perfect view of Figlorn Village, and a good bit of this part of Archway Valley. He can even see part of The Wilds from here. After enjoying the view for awhile, but feeling winded from the climb up the hill, he settles into the tall grass for nap.   Returning to the village, he finds a nice pile of blank signs awaiting his penmanship, and of course Kraq is there wondering why they aren’t all done yet. Feebs makes some snippy comment but Krag just wanders off mumbling about Feebs’ laziness.   Finally, the day of Zenith has arrived! All of Figlorn Village has come out for the festivities which begin at high noon on this glorious 26th of Unndilar. This year, "Zenith" falls on the second day of the week, Grissen, so many are enjoying having a normal workday off to celebrate.   Everyone is in a wonderful mood. Kraq is even being nice to Feebs!   But as the afternoon goes on, there is a rumbling sound in the distance. At first it is thought that a thunderstorm may be rolling in, which causes disappointment since the fireworks have not started yet.   But then Feebs sees it - the dust cloud coming toward the village as the thunderous sound gets closer and he realizes it's dire wolves - dire wolves being ridden by Orcs!   Figlorn Village is being raided!   Feebs looks around frantically for someplace to run but even in his panic he manages to cast the spell called mage armor to protect himself. His skill and knowledge of magic is limited but at least he has something to use against the raiders.   As the leading wave of Dire Wolf riders enter the village, Feebs tries to use a pitchfork as a rudimentary pike like he has read about in his beloved story books, but the wolves just leap over him and avoid getting impaled.   Feebs tries to run and find a place and hide, but with all the festival booths changing the village layout along with the noise and confusion, he manages to run into a deadend where is soon approached by a burley orc, “You’re a small one ain’ ya” he says to Feebs. “I’ll have fun squashin’ you like a bug.”   As he swings his greataxe, Feebs again calls on his magic to case shield which just barely causes the orc to miss. Then Feebs tries to run away as quickly as he can but as he does the orc hurles a javelin, impaling Feebs through the shoulder – the world goes dark.   Feebs begins to come to and the first thing he sees is a face with fey-like features, with white hair, ashen skin, and piercing blue eyes looking down at he, the sun behind them illuminating them in an almost devine light.   "Easy small one; your wounds are quite severe. I am no healer but I will do what I can. For now, just rest." She sprinkles a bit of sand on Feebs' forehead while speaking words he does not understand and seems to forget almost as soon as he hears them as he drifts back to sleep.   Again he wakes, but this time there is no one standing over him. It is dark. As his eyes adjust he realize it is night and he are under a blanket, a water skin and small loaf of bread next to him. He can feel the telltale bumps of thumbs of being in the back of a cart or wagon of some kind. As he sits up, he sees the driver of the wagon, their back toward he has long white hair… and are those the pointed ears of an elf? If they are an elf, why is their skin grey?   "Have I crossed to the other side?" he asks no one in particular. "Oh, you're awake!" the strange figure says as she pulls the wagon to the side of the trail and stops. "I was starting to worry."   The stranger introduces herself as Sylonidis Sarmarhallan. She is clearly a Shadar-kai Elf, which Feebs had only heard of before now. She explains that is now three days after Zenith, and the raid. She was in Archway Valley searching for special herbs and plants she needs and was returning to "The Breach" between Archway Valley and The Wilds on her way back to The Feylands.   Since Figlorn Village is along the border near The Breach, she came upon the aftermath of the raid a day after it had happened. Feebs was the only one she found alive and so she chose to help him and take him with her in case the orcs returned.   While enjoying a meal around a small campfire, Sylonidis gives Feebs back his belt pouch, which she admits to looking inside to see if there was anything that might help her identify him. She mentions noticing the papers with spells written on them. "Are you wizard?", she asks.   "Yes, well... kind of. I've tried to teach myself." says Feebs.   This is when Sylonidis reveals to Feebs that she is also a wizard, specifically she is a Bladesinger. Feebs has heard of this but never dreamed he would meet one! Imagine his surprise when Sylonidis says, "I happen to be looking for an apprentice. Would you be interested in learning the ancient elven tradition of Bladesinging? It's not something that is often taught to non-elves."   Feebs thinks it over but after a while agrees. And so Feebs returns with Sylonidis to her home in the Feylands where he spends the next year and half training to be a Bladesinger.   It is now the year 1499 CE, and the month of Duscar. Feebs is practicing with his rapier in the yard one day when Sylondis approaches him. “Feebs! How would you, my dear apprentice, like to accompany me on a journey?”   “Where to?” asks Feebs   “To the ruins of the great city Ghor Dranas, in the Krynn Dynasty.” She hold up what appears to be a letter, it’s grey wax seal freshly broken. “I’ve been invited to the court of the Bright Queen herself, Leylas Krynn, and I would like my most trusted friend and apprentice at my side! Pack your bags, Feebs, we leave first thing in the morning!”   They arrive in Ghor Dranas, on the last day of the year, 32nd of Duscar just one day before New Dawn and already can see the telltale signs of celebratory preparations. “I wonder”, thinks Feebs to himself “what adventure awaits us here.”
