Session 21 – The Lost City – Maidens and Magi
General Summary
Choosing to explore the eastern area of the third tier, the team finally locates the elusive Warrior Maidens of Madarua. Sylbella speaks for the group, but their leader, Pandora seems dubious of Sylbella’s retelling of how they came to be in the pyramid as they have already had rumors reach them of the refugees from the surface seeking shelter from the desert.
Pandora also expresses distrust of the males in the group, particular Gunkyn whom she views as speaking out of turn. Ultimately, though Sylbella is able to salvage the conversation to a point, but alas the Maidens have no information that would be helpful and so they leave on peaceful if not completely friendly terms. Not pleased with how they were treated, the group manipulates the rotating hallway to make their way toward what they hope are additional chambers of the Maidens but at first find a door with markings of the Brotherhood of Gorm and that begins to crackle with electrical energy as they approach. Sylbella in fact accidentally touches it and receives a shock so they decide to not take the risk.
Moving on to the northeast corner of the tier, they find a corridor that is obviously in the control of the Maidens as it contains two statues of women fighters forming an arch with their spears. Feebs ’ superior skills at perception allow him to spot a pressure plate on the floor just beyond the statues but there does not appear to be a clear mechanism indicating what it might trigger. They choose to avoid stepping on it anyway and find themselves at a door leading to a Temple to Madarua.
Further investigation of the chamber reveals a secret door to the south which leads into a room with a stone vault which Gunkyn easily is able to pick with this Thieves’ Tools. Inside is quite a bit of coin belonging to the Warrior Maidens, which they dump into their bag of holding and then make their way back they way they came as quickly and quietly as possible, but not before leaving behind the Zargon holy symbols they had found earlier.
Again using the rotating hallway to get to areas of the third tier as yet unexplored they had back toward the area believed to be controlled by the Magi of Usamigaras.
They come upon a short hallway with a statue of Usamigaras holding a wand. A brief inspection reveals that the wand moves, either left or right. Feebs turns it to the left and it begins to slide backwards revealing a longer hallway of which it is now at the far west end. This reveals a door clearly leading into the room where they first encountered the Magi, who labeled them heretics. Using the spell unseen servant, Feebs moves the wand to the right, which causes some kind of gas to spew from the statue’s mouth, filling most of the western end of the hallway.
Avoiding the gas, they make their way around to the other entrance to the chamber of the Magi and decide to finally take them in battle for their slights and to hopefully end, or at least diminish the Magi’s threat to their safety.
The Magi of Usamigaras, and their leader Auriga now defeated, they locate the secret compartment in the stone altar containing a magical mace and wand and then settle in for a long rest.
