Aporeu chronicles Issue 18: Business interests
Stories from the adventurers
This week
Short stories as they are supposed to be.Business interests by Doirin
We went to the docks and met Divine. She runs an import business, and employees have been disappearing while working in her warehouse, fifteen people in a week time. We got a key and went into the warehouse, where we found five wolves eating the dead bodies of ten people. All of us fought hard, while Quen helped us by lighting them up with purple lights. Thamior changed into a bear. There was movement at a certain spot. We managed to open a secret door, and Kaaravic led us through the maze of the sewers. That guy is really good with tracking. We finally came to a room where four people were talking. Vic and Quen tried to negotiate, but that did not work, so we fought them. This was after we learned that the initial five workers were actually released to tell miss Divine about how she should not get in the way of the thieves’ guild. When we had killed them and had time to look around, I noticed the crates were marked as thieves’ guild property. We left all thieves’ guild property alone, since that is not ours to take. We left a note saying sorry for the mess, we hope you’ll find some more talented people to work for you since these ones were not taking good care of your property, we left all of your property. When we returned, we told miss Divine she had to relocate or work out matters with the thieves’ guild, because they have used her property for years. We have not been able to locate the five initial employees.Business interests by Kaaravic
Another local mission. The guild seems to be the de-facto place to go for investigative work or anything that requires brawn. As some of our number were hired by a fetching Tiefling whom name you need not know. Who recently rented a warehouse by the docks to conduct her import business. A naive whelp it seemed as she did not inquire about or contact local thief guilds, gangs or smuggler outfits. Despite looking like she may normally do other work on the corner we encountered her. Being offered 200 gold to find (out about) 15 of her workers, we investigate.
Missing, possibly dead. A hefty number. In a relatively short period of time. We keep an eye out for activity and tracks as we head for the warehouse proper. A T-shaped building without much fuss. Tracks leading out and in are clear, something to follow later.
First, we scout the building. The windows reveal little, nor does a sweep around.
We enter. A sneaky, and surprisingly impetuous dwarf alerts 5 feasting great wolves to our attention. Conflict easily avoided had I moment to initiate dialog, or simply drug them.
Ah well, now I have 5 great wolves to skin and jerky. And my companions had proven their mettle in battle. Of note however, were the collars the beasts wore. They were trained, owned, mastered.
These masters were quickly tracked down through the smugglers tunnels that led to the warehouse. And then equally fast dispatched as diplomacy proved futile as the murderous dretches proved worthy of no respect or leeway.
Leaving behind any wares clearly marked by the thief-guild we took from the dead, as they have no use of it, and followed the path out to the basement of an otherwise unassuming tavern.
We tracked back, informed the lady that the first 5 were warned and scared off, that they may inform their employer. And the other 10 were killed and eaten by the great wolves.
And that she had best open dialogue with the thief guild that had been using her rented warehouse for ages. As well perhaps with her landlord.
That, or leave.
