This week
The first story is from a first time adventurer that should be obligatory reading material for anyone that wants to be an adventurer. The second story is the same story told by the viewpoint of anonther adventurer.
Unrest in Wentel part 2 by Alyr
[Editor’s note: this story was delivered to us with several comments included, ostensibly by the author herself. After some deliberation, I decided to include these comments in the final print to allow readers greater insight into the mind of this fledgling adventurer. I believe this story may well serve as a cautionary tale for those naive youths eager to join the adventurer’s guild.]
The story of a stupid flower girl who thought she could be a hero.
Hi, my name is Alyr. Alyr Dendrogar (why do I keep saying my first name twice? It’s weird). I grow and sell flowers because I want to bring nature to the city. I have been trying very hard to make this dream work for a long time, but it is not going very well.
A week ago, I met some nice adventurers who helped me with some… problems I was having. I used to think adventurers were bad and scary, but they were very kind and patient, spending all their very important time to help some crazy girl they found on the street. One of them even had a token that marked her as a friend of nature, and she let me touch it! Her name is Jade and she is my new best friend (Is she really? Does she really like me? Do I even like her? I don’t know anymore.)
Since these nice adventurers helped me, I had the silly idea that maybe I could help people too. I went to the Adventurer’s Guild and saw there was a quest to help the forest, which was being chopped down by nasty goblins. When I saw the quest notice, I felt like this adventure was perfect for me! (it wasn’t). I talked to a very nice man called Lornan to get accepted into the guild. He told me about how dangerous adventuring was for almost three hours and asked if I still wanted to join. Honestly, I wasn’t sure, but I said yes anyway. (I should have listened to him)
I had to do some shopping first, to make sure I was ready (I wasn’t). Most adventurers I’ve seen have a lot of armor and swords and axes, but those are expensive and I don’t like metal things very much (because I’m weird). In the end, I spent most of my savings on a sturdy staff and a backpack full of things I thought might be useful (they weren’t).
On the day of the quest, I arrived at the guild hall. (late because it took me two hours to step out my front door) I didn’t see anyone I recognized at first, but then I saw Jade sitting against the wall. I was so happy she was going to be there with me! But… Jade wasn’t like she had been the days before. She was very quiet and barely even saw me. I was so scared I had done something to make my new friend angry at me. (of course, I made it all about me. Me, me, me. Stupid)
There were four others going with us, all men who each looked scary in their own way. One was Lothrien, a wood elf like me! That made me a little happy, but he didn’t talk to me much and he looked quite dangerous. (why did I think he would like me just because we are both wood elves?) Next was a half-elf named Brother Zeke. He wasn’t wearing any armor or sharp weapons, but when I met his big red eyes for a second, it sent a chill down my spine. Then there was Cahir, a very tall human who had the ability to change his face. This made me very scared because now I don’t know who is real anymore. Last was Quen. He wasn’t dressed like a warrior, but he looked a lot like one of the evil Drow mother always warned me about.
I really didn’t want to go on an adventure with a scary dark elf, so I asked Quen if he was one. He said he was only half Drow, so I said that that was half good. (so rude! Why would you say that?) Apparently, Quen is very famous in Arnheim, which I didn’t know. (because I only leave my house to sell flowers and nobody talks to me)
Somebody from the guild explained to us that a large group of goblins was busy cutting down the forest and building some sort of war camp. They showed us a map with patrol routes and other things I don’t really know much about. I took the map with me in the hopes that I could make some more sense of it later. (you should have given it to somebody who knew what they were doing)
We decided (we? You just hobbled after the group) to head for the forest quickly, taking only a small detour to visit a little farm that Quen had been to before. The people inside said they hadn’t seen any goblins in a while, so it seemed they were just staying in the forest for now.
When we got to the forest, Quen said he was going to look ahead. I thought he meant he was going to walk in front, but he just stood there and his eye went all white. Jade started poking Quen’s head, but he didn’t respond. I was starting to get worried when he suddenly said that there were goblins up ahead, cutting trees. I was amazed at this incredible ability! How does it work?
Jade offered to go investigate alone while the rest stayed at a distance behind. I didn’t want to be too far away from her so I followed a little closer (clingy much?). Brother Zeke had the same idea so we ended up walking together, which was a little bit awkward since we had to be quiet. Suddenly, I heard Quen whisper in my ear even though he was far away. This made me startle and I almost yelled. It was a little bit scary, but Quen said nice things so it was okay.
Jade is really good at being quiet, so she got all the way close to where the goblins were cutting trees. But when she tried to come back to us, she tripped and fell in some wood, making a lot of noise! The goblins attacked immediately and I could hear more coming with wolves. When I saw those awful creatures, I got really scared and just didn’t want them to be there anymore, so I asked the forest for help and a cloud of fog came to hide them away (idiot! Now nobody can see where they are!).
With the goblins closing in and half of our group far away, I thought for sure we were going to get killed and eaten. Jade was fighting them in front while Zeke held them off behind me. (it’s my fault they got hurt) Zeke fights very bravely, but the goblins and their wolves hit him again and again until he couldn’t stand anymore. I turned around to try and help him, but I felt something hit my leg. One of the goblins had shot me with an arrow! It hurt a lot, I’ve never been in so much pain. (Zeke and Jade got hurt much worse, but they didn’t complain)
I didn’t really know what to do, but I felt very guilty about mister Zeke getting so hurt because of me, so I fought through the pain to crawl over and asked the forest for help again. (Stop trying to make yourself sound like a hero) It worked! Flowers grew on his wounds and their stems closed them to stop the bleeding. I was so happy I finally did something useful. But then… the goblins, they would not stop. Even though I was trying so hard to save mister Zeke, they just kept attacking him. (what? You thought they were just going to wait?)
It made me so mad, that these horrible, vile little creatures could be so cruel. I don’t really know how I did it, but I got up and remembered all those years of mother teaching me how to defend myself. My body just seemed to move on its own, and before I knew it, I had… I had killed one of them. (sure, just make it sound like it wasn’t your fault) A living creature was dead because of me. A horrible, nasty, evil creature, but still a living being.
Finally, the others arrived to save us, and the remaining goblins ran away. Suddenly, I felt very tired. I had never been in a real fight before. In just one minute, I had been hurt, I had seen a man almost get killed by monsters, and I had ended the life of a living being. And then… it got worse.
Even though I had just had the worst experience of my life, the rest of the group was talking like this was completely normal for them. (that’s because they are real adventurers and you are just pretending) Jade mentioned something about having to collect “ingredients”. I thought she meant picking mushrooms are something, but then she just… started cutting them up. The wolves, the goblins, just… chopping them into pieces. Others joined in as well, and I felt like I had to help, so I let Jade fill the glass bottle I brought with blood from one of the goblins and it got all over my hands because they were shaking so much.
Jade, who was so nice and cute and cuddly, Jade who helped me, who is a friend of nature, who was gloomy that whole day, was now cheerfully butchering these bodies and stuffing the parts into a bag. I didn’t even recognize her anymore. Is this the real Jade? Maybe I was right about her the first time and she really is a monster. (how could you say that about your friend? Did you forget her help so easily?)
I really wanted to go home, but the group decided to go further into the woods so I had to follow. (What? Were you expecting them to give up on the mission just because you were scared?) For some reason, Jade seemed a bit happier after killing and cutting up all those goblins, and she starts walking hand in hand with Quen, even though they didn’t seem to get along earlier. Cahir took her other hand and I was starting to feel left out, so I took his. (Why? Did you think this was some sort of game?)
It was getting very dark at this point, and mister Cahir said he couldn’t see well anymore. It must be really hard for humans to just go blind every night, sounds very scary. Fortunately, he could use his face-changing ability to turn into an elf so he could see again.
Apparently, there was some sort of goblin cave up ahead and the others wanted to go look inside. To get there, we had to cross an open path that the goblins had made through the forest. Cahir went over first, then Jade, then me. Quen wanted to go next, but he tripped and some goblins spotted him. We all quickly hid in the bushes before they arrived, led by a big, mean bugbear.
Jade and Lothrien didn’t hesitate and shot at the goblins with their bows while Zeke and Cahir used some sort of powerful and scary looking magic beams. I was too scared to do anything, so I just stayed hidden. (like a coward) But then, I saw one of the goblins walk up right next to me! He didn’t see me yet but I was sure he would, so I decided to whack him on the head with my staff before he could find me and he fell down, dead. (can you really call that defending yourself? You murdered him)
Meanwhile, Cahir was standing in the open all alone, facing two goblins and the bugbear by himself. He was so brave! (unlike me) Suddenly, the goblins started glowing with a strange purple light that made them really easy to see in the dark. I later learned that Quen did this. He has so much amazing and useful magic! (also unlike me)
I really wanted to help Cahir, so I made some flowers grow on a stone to help me aim, and threw it at the big bugbear. (stupid, stay hidden and leave being a hero to the real adventurers) It hit him, but I think that just made him angry. I thought for sure the bugbear was going to come and kill me, but then mister Zeke used some sort of magic to make him run away. Before he could get back to the cave, Jade shot him in the back of his head with an arrow and killed him. (much better than throwing a stupid rock)
After the fight, Jade walked up to the bugbear she had killed and cut off his big ugly head. I was afraid she was going to butcher all the goblins again, but it seemed just the head was enough this time. Cahir confessed that his elven face didn’t actually allow him to see in the dark, and I was amazed that he had managed to cross the road and fight all those goblins without being able to see anything!
Quen used his far seeing magic again and told us there were still goblins in the cave. Jade proposed to walk in holding the bugbear’s head in order to scare the goblins away. I thought this was a little bit grim, but at least it might make the goblins go away without more fighting. (how are you so naive?)
Jade walked in with the head, Cahir and Zeke walking next to her looking very scary with their magic. I tried to look scary too, but I don’t really know how. (who would be scared of some stupid weak flower girl?) The plan seemed to work, and the goblins ran away. We found a tent further inside, which I thought was strange, why would you go camping in a cave?
We checked the whole cave, looking for the goblins that had run away so we could ask them a few questions. We found them huddled in the corner of a room, looking miserable and terrified. I know goblins are horrible, evil creatures, but seeing them so scared and helpless like that made me feel really sad. (these creatures destroyed the forest, shot you with and arrow, and almost killed your friends. Why do you feel sorry for them?)
Cahir and Jade told the goblins that they would let them live if they dropped their weapons and surrendered. I was relieved that the situation could be resolved without more bloodshed, but also a little confused because Jade had said earlier that they couldn’t let any goblins live because then they would keep coming back. (how did you not realize what was going to happen at this point?)
The goblins surrendered, and everyone started tying them up with ropes so they couldn’t run or fight anymore. The others asked them some questions and the goblins answered, convinced they would be spared if they did. But then, Cahir used his magic to make a wicked-looking sword out of shadow, and he just started killing the defenseless goblins one by one. Jade went to join in too. I tried to stop her, but it was too late. (why stop her when you are a goblin killer too? Hypocrite)
I hoped the answers those poor goblins gave would be enough to finish the mission because I really wanted to go home now. Unfortunately for me, the others weren’t satisfied yet and wanted to explore the cave more. I didn’t want to be left alone, so I followed again. (all you do is follow where others lead, you are just a burden to the group)
We found a big room with a throne and a strange archway on the wall. Quen said the wall was an illusion, so Jade puts her hand on it and goes straight through! One by one, everyone walks through the wall, leaving me alone with Quen. I was scared to follow, so I just closed my eyes and stepped forward, going through the fake wall into a hallway.
Inside, we found a really big nest with claw marks around it. This made me really scared because I thought it might be a dragon’s nest and I was worried it could come back soon. Exploring further, we also found some big cages with animals and monsters inside. They were very frightening and dangerous, but also very sad. Seeing these wild creatures locked up in a cave, beaten, hungry, and scared made me very upset. (it’s not like you tried to do anything about it)
Meanwhile, Jade and Lothrien went to explore a different hallway, and Lothrien came back holding some really rare flowers and gave them to me. That was very nice of him, although I’m not sure what to do with the Death Bells that were among them. They are pretty, but very poisonous.
A bit further, we found another fake wall, leading outside. The others started discussing what to do with the animals. To my horror, Jade and Cahir decided that the best thing would be to kill the poor creatures because otherwise the goblins might use them against people. I couldn’t believe that somebody who is supposed to be a friend of nature could be so cold about killing these defenseless animals. I stayed outside, but the awful sounds of the creatures screaming in pain and fear will haunt me forever.
Finally, the others decided it was time to go back home. We made our way back to the little farm we visited earlier to rest before heading back to Arnheim. The whole night, I couldn’t stop thinking about the horrible things we had done in that forest, and how stupid I had been for thinking I could do something good.
Unrest in Wentel part 2 by Cahir Isengrim
Dear reader,
Recently I have been thinking more and more about my youth. More specifically the happier parts of my life. After my recent enlightenment I decided that I should make the best of what is left of my life and move on. However dear reader I must warn you, there are moments in which I can make decisions which are out of the ordinary. But perhaps this is the reason my dear patron, The Archivist, has chosen me. For she gathers each and every story she deems interesting. So now is the time if you decide to stop or continue reading this particular story.
A couple of weeks ago I read about an adventurer party investigating goblins near Wentel. After reading the story I decided to keep my eye open for further investigations regarding this matter. As if it was predestined, while browsing the quest board I finally found the job I was looking for. Just in time to test the nice work done on my shield. As I take the offer a Drow looking guy bothered me. Apparently, he was also reading this specific job offer. The guy introduces himself as Quen, apparently a famous musician of some sort. I tried to explain to him that it was fate which brought us together for this mission and that we should team up. During our talk we got interrupted by more and more people who are interested in this job. A Tabaxi called Jade, a Half-elf called Ezekiel, a Wood-Elf called Lothrien and another Wood-Elf called Ms. Alyr walked up to us. The Tabaxi lady seemed a bit frustrated for some reason, as the way she was then she seemed unfit for a job requiring teamwork. Ms. Alyr seemed a bit taken aback by everything, I wondered if she was fit for this line of work. Having taken a good look at the annoying musician I cannot help but think to myself, wondering if this group would make it back. However, Lothrien and Ezekiel seem a bit more capable and looked as if they are able to take care of themselves. One of them seemed like the sneaky type while the other seemed more of a martial artist.
After gathering a bit more information about our route and receiving the information the scouts gathered, we decided to make a plan. However, it seemed that Jade and Quen didn’t get along that well. Nevertheless, we also received a map marked with the recent goblin activities and we received the name of an individual called Daknek, a name which popped up in a letter found during the previous job.
Quen, being a part of the previous quest, suggested we should head to a farm nearby the area of interest. After finally having arrived at our destination we tried to inquire more about the goblins from these people. However, the lady who opened the doors, Ms. Betty, told us that everything was fine and that they had not seen anything noteworthy recently. Moving forward Ezekiel took the lead and we decided to come in from the outer edges, through the east, whilst making our way towards the cave entrance. Quen used some sort of divination method to look ahead. While he did this, his single eye turned white and he became unresponsive.
Jade seemed to dislike me due to being a human, as I do not have clear vision in the dark. The audacity of some people, I may not have a clear vision but I dare say that I am more competent than several others of our company! While me and Jade seem to bicker a lot. Apparently, I am not the only one she dislikes. During Quen’s divination he saw a lone goblin chopping wood. However, these vermin are never alone so we assumed there were more around. While Quen was working hard to relay useful information, Jade decided to be useless and poke fun of a man who cannot retaliate. Finally, someone with a mind for progressing the mission stepped up, Ezekiel decided to conjure a small red dot as to make Jade do something useful and he follows behind her. He decided to make a three-way relay point as he can communicate with Jade in the front and Quen can communicate with him. Lothrien and I accompanied Quen in order to safe keep his body while he was busy controlling his familiar. Ms. Alyr decided to accompany Ezekiel. After Jade reached the place Quen informed us about, she noticed a couple more goblins and also a larger one. She also informs us of a marching troupe of goblins a bit further into the woods on her right. While trying to sneak back, she apparently failed. Quen was unfazed by this, as he said that this happens every time. I suddenly remember what I thought at the beginning of this mission, will we come back alive? But worry not dear reader, as you are reading this story which I have written you can be certain that at the very least I, Cahir, have returned safe and sound. If you would like to know about the others, you should continue reading.
While we were trying to rush forward in order to aid Jade, we had no clue as to what was happening. At the very least Ezekiel and Ms. Alyr were much closer to her. This formation was stupid of us, we should have stuck much closer to each other. For now, we in the back had no clue as to what was happening as we try to rush to the front. Suddenly Lothrien disappears in the forest and I can hear a wolf squealing. As I thought, quite a capable sneaky guy. My vision impedes me in the darkness, I tried to finish of the wolf however I cannot see beyond different shades of black. Suddenly I saw a bright flash in the distance around where Jade would be. With this flash I caught a glimpse of what was happening. I saw Ezekiel going down being ganged upon by several wolf riders and goblins. I prayed to The Archivist that his story should not end so soon, his story should not be resting on a bookshelf yet. But at least we had something good happening, I heard a guttural squeal and a loud snap as Lothrien expertly finished the damn wolf including its rider. Finally, I was in range and could see what was happening. The fragile Ms. Alyr was trying to tend to Ezekiel, she even took out one of the goblins looming over them with a quarterstaff and kick combination. I guess she wasn’t lying when she said that she practiced combat with her mother. Now was my time, I immediately rushed in and stabbed the other remaining goblin through his throat and ended the vermin’s life. Quen having arrived helped Ezekiel up and we gathered our spoils of combat. With this we decided to take a short rest as the bulk of our team was tired. During this rest I again slipped into one of my trances. I kept changing into other people during the whole time in order not to forget. I will not disclose what this means, for this is a story which ONLY the Archivist and me will know.
After our rest we decided to push on ahead through the hills into the cave. Quen again used his divination to see ahead and Jade pulled his body along. As I could not see anything in the dark, I decided to hold Jade’s other hand as she leads the way. Surely Ms. Alyr misread the situation as she wanted to hold my hand in order to join in on the “fun”. At this point Quen notified us of a five-man goblin patrol and also a bugbear across an open field near the entrance of the cave. As our party again descended into a discussion on how to proceed, “someone” in the party decided to bring my disability to see in the dark up for the second time. I had had it with this behavior so I decided to transform into an elf and said that the problem was fixed and we should move on. Apparently, no one knows how these kinds of things work so none of the team questioned my facade. Moving on, I with my disability lead the party around the open field and across a small dirt road in order to reach the skirt of the mountains and shimmy along till we reached the entrance of the cave. One by one we crossed the road until someone who did have the ability to see in the dark messed it up. It was probably due to him missing an eye. Immediately we were spotted by the previous patrol and we engaged in combat. Jade started off with hitting the bugbear and Ms. Alyr also engaged with her usual combination and took a goblin out. Lothrien expertly did his job taking someone out whilst still being hidden in the shadows. Quen decided to light up the area a bit and illuminated most of the patrol with a purplish violet color. This time would be different from the previous encounter, now I could see them thanks to Quen. For a second I question if I should drop my shield and engage with two weapons but there was no time for thinking I concentrated upon my rapier conjuring black flames around it and lunged at the bigger goblin heavily wounding him. The flames looking as if they were hungry for more flesh immediately jumped onto another goblin and incinerated him. Jade shot an arrow so skillfully that it entered the eye socket of a goblin. The poor sucker did not even realize he was dead until he took a couple of steps and slumped over. Now as I am the only person in front of the bugbear, and the remaining two goblins all of them decided that I would be easy prey. As I am writing this story now you can be sure that this is not the case here. They all pummeled upon me, the bugbear tried to hit me twice but I managed to block one of his hits with my shield. Suddenly a rock flies over my head, on which flowers were budding. Such a beautiful sight in this dark forest filled with death and screams. This can only be the work of our companion Ms. Alyr. Seeing the bugbear attacking me the larger goblin and the other goblin also attack me. I managed to again block one of the hits with my shield however the larger goblin manages to hit me as he swings a second time. Flustered I could not react in time as the last goblin also manages to land a hit on me. At this time I could hear faint whispers from behind me, chilling me to my bones, luckily it originated from Ezekiel and it’s target is the bugbear. This caused the bugbears face to distort in pain and he immediately fled away from us. Not wanting it to get away I manage to hit him with my arcane powers, but it is not enough. Again Jade decided to put an arrow through someone's eye as she aimed at the fleeing bugbear and let loose. The arrow entering from the back of his head and hanging out from his eye socket managed to pop out his eye causing it to hang from the arrow. It was like a fine piece of art. Oh dear reader how I wish you could have seen it for yourself. Lothrien getting a sudden inspiration, decided to shoot an arrow at the fleeing larger goblin. However his interests were a bit different as he aimed a bit to the left from his back. First, I thought he was going for the heart but when we saw the goblin turned over, we could see he had a nice arrowhead sticking out of his left nipple. Ezekiel kindly blasted the last goblin to smithereens, it was like a confetti of blood, flesh and bones mixed with a bit of goblin equipment. I must say, a nice sight to behold. While everyone gathered to pick up the loot and make a quick plan on how to proceed inside the caves, I decided that it was right to confess that I had no visibility in the dark.
Quen, being the useful guy he is, decided to use his divination to look into the cave. But suddenly his face contorted and the color in his eyes returned. He seemed genuinely upset and informed us of his cat being killed. Furthermore, he informs us that he saw a campfire in the center of the cave with a big tent behind it and one goblin at each side of the entrance. Jade decided that she could take the head of the bugbear and intimidate the goblins into submission. Ezekiel and I tried to assist her with conjuring our arcane powers ready to fire at any moment. Ezekiel’s arcane powers even put me on edge, he conjured a purplish misty flame which left a trail of black feathers behind in which sometimes the visage of a raven’s skull was visible uttering something guttural in what I gathered to be deep speech. I on the other hand summoned black misty flames in which glistening tree branches were gushing like an unmoving current, occasionally white flower petals were sprouting on the branches and sometimes they dropped on the floor leaving a trail behind. I must say initially I did not like Jade as she seemed annoyed by something and was quite rude to everybody but ,as the mission went on, I could see that she is very skilled and creative. As I am writing this story I now realize I could have just transformed into the bugbear which may or may not have made things easier. However, this plan of hers seemed to work just fine as the goblins scattered and ran off into separate hallways. Lothrien checked the tent and found a chest in which were a couple of vials with green red liquid inside them. Moving into the next part of the cave in which one of the goblins ran off I again prepared my arcane powers but to my sudden surprise no one was there. It was just a singular room with a couple of books and writing utensils. Very odd for goblins to be interested in literature but I was more focused on the one goblin that should be here. There must have been some sort of hidden escape but we could not find it.
Moving onto the other hallway where the remaining goblin ran off to, we saw some kind of storage room with five goblins huddled into a corner as the vermin they are. They were scared shitless, I decided to calm them and offered to bind them and promised them their freedom if they cooperated. After interrogating the goblins, we learned that the bugbear was called Kregg and he acted as the second man in charge together with a red goblin called Orbug. Also there were dozens of goblins in the forest. We heard no information of Daknek. This was all the useful information we could gather from these vermin. I dropped my shield and rapier and conjured a longsword of which the handle was made from a black tree branch wrapping itself around the blade which itself was as white as snow and engraved by black lines which looked like roots from the branch. Starting from the right I started chopping their heads off one by one, to my surprise just as I wanted to cut the fourth one, I saw it was already dead. Jade had also joined me and killed the two on the left but was stopped by Ms. Alyr. I suddenly came back to my senses, I realized what I had done. I do not regret my actions, however I wish I was more considerate towards Ms. Alyr. Such a fragile girl, I truly do think she is not fit for such a cruel life. She should be surrounded by nature and flowers of every kind and color. But now she was surrounded by the disgusting odor of goblin piss, blood and death, she was surrounded by people such as me. I feel shame and regret in making her see this.
We still had a mission to do, so we pressed on. We arrived at what we thought to be the final room which contained a throne and a big archway behind it. However, the wall behind the archway seem to be an illusion according to Quen. As Jade passes her hand through it I followed behind her and one by one we pressed through this new hallway. Behind it we discovered a room filled with caged animals, a secret hallway which leads back towards the singular room in which we found the books, another room which at some point contained some sort of bigger beast and finally a hidden exit at the back of a hallway which seemed to be a dead end. Ms. Alyr identified the missing beast to be some kind of dragon like creature, probably the one goblin that ran off took it with him and escaped through the hidden exit. After investigating the caged animals, we could see that the cages contained a black bear, an owlbear, a rustmonster and a giant boar. They looked as if they were being tamed or perhaps they were food for the dragon. Either way they had a miserable life and did not seem to have a spark of life within them as they all cowered in fear and ran to the farthest corner in their cages. I suggested to the party that killing them was more merciful than leaving them here in their cages. So, I went up and used my arcane powers in order to end their miserable life. May the The Archivist bless their stories with a nice place within her collection.
Exiting through the hidden exit from the back it was still dark outside so I could still not see anything. In order to lighten the mood up after a job like this I again transformed into an elf and tried to look as far as I could see. This action of mine elicited the reaction I was expecting from several of our party members. But as expected everything was black, I could not see anything, all I could see was the darkness, in that moment I could not stop and think to myself, will I ever be able to smile again like the young boy who ran between the heather fields?
