Alchemy

Alchemy is both a science as well as a magic type in Hysal. This blend of seemingly unrelated subjects into a single art makes its study quite unique and complicated for both its students and its execution delicate for Practitioners.

Discovery

Achemy is a very old study, with records of its practice being as dated as the oldest records of elemental magic and mages themselves. Recipes were slowly discovered and improved over decades and centuries via a painstaking process of trial and error. Many civilisations independantly discovered a few recipes on their own. Cultural exchanges, starting during the First Age, and exploding during the Second Age, made its knowledge and practice relatively common across all Hysalian cultures.

Main practicing Organisation:

In Arros:

The Alchemist's Guild of Vrahlis is the main organisation for alchemist on the Continent of Arros, and it regulates quality, prices and trade secrets. They have members in every large city in Arros, but most do have a degree of independance, especialy in remote or simply far-away regions.

In Enask:

In Enaskia, control is divided between three competing guilds: The Reds of Kalosanthar, the Blues of Valcor and the Greens of Aksa. They wage a silent cartel war between each other over the control of their own controled territory and zone of influence.

Place of Study:

People can learn about alchemy in nearly every major Academic institution in the world as nearly all of them have classes on the subject, since it is the most accessible form of magic because it is the only one available to non-mages to practice. In most libraries, books teaching about alchemy are also available to people who may not be students, but not to commoners, as Alchemy remains a dangerous practice to inexperienced practitioners.

Ingredients

Thousands of different ingredients are used in the creation of various alchemic recipes. Some of those ingredient come from magic sources, such as magical substance or parts of Elemental Animals.

Recipes

Various recipes are made with those ingredients, such as healing, stamina and strenght potions, which works with everybody to various decree and others that work only with specific mages. All of these are used extensively both in everyday life, and especialy by human and mage soldiers. Many potent poisons can also be created with those ingredients.
