Choranism

Choranism is the most practiced religion in both Arros and Enask. Some groups in areas of Osian, Mahador and Samaria also practice the religion. Unlike Solianism, Choranism is a monotheistic religion, meaning that they believe in only one god or higher entity, whom they refer to as Halin

Divine Origins

In the City of Aksa, in western Enask, a young soulmage, by the name of Laris Choran was reportedly the first ever to enter the The Ether. He wrote about what he saw and the voice that spoke to him, which he deduced to be Halin. His writtings became very popular in the city and in Western Enask more broadly, especialy in the Soulmage community, who were being heavely percecuted at the time. Eventualy, multiple Mages confirmed Choran's findings, hearing the same voice while in that mysterious place. The popularity of the faith explosed and it began to spread rapidly in Enask and Arros.

Cosmological Views

Choranian people believe that Halin created the earth as a perfect realm. However, Humans managed to corrupt it. Halin then "awakened" the soulmages all around Hysal to guide Humanity towards salvation and cleanse the world of all evil. They also believe in an after-life. However, they don't believe that The Ether represents that and dont view it as a final destination, but simply as a transitory zone between the earth and the Heavens, where the actual after-Life happens.

Worship

Daily Prayers

It is expected of a Chorani to pray two times a day. Once in the morning, upon waking up, and a second time in the evening, or whenever they go to bed. If the person doesnt sleep for a day, they are still required to pray 2 times during that day. These prayers are addressed to Halin in order to thank him for the day.

Optional Prayers

If a Chorani person seeks guidance or reasurance, they may also spontaniously pray to either Halin, or to Laris Choran, the founder of the religion and who they call "The first Messenger". In fact, most pray to him for guidance insted of Halin, but both are done and accepted.

Locations and forms of address

The daily prayers are done inside the home, while monthly Temple prayers are done in the temples, which also features a small amount of food and drinks. In prayer, Halin is ofter refered to as "The Mighty", while Laris is always called "The first Messenger".

Celebrations

The day of Sacrifice

This holiday celebrates the sacrifice of Eremir the great and is the most recent holyday to be added to the Chorani calendar. Depending on the sect, it is celebrated on two different days. The most common, used by most Choranians is the 16th of june. However, Raunish Choranism celebrates it one day later, on the 17th of june. This day is very important for the various communities of shapeshifters in Central and eastern Arros.

The Ascension

The supposed day that Laris Choran, the founder of Choranism, died and subsequently ascended to the Ether and the heavens. Since the actual date of his ascension was unknown, many sects have chosen different dates. This was rectified during the 4th coucil of Choran, which took place around 600 years ago and establised the date of his ascension to be the 14th of november. During the preceading 7 days, the people are meant to fast during the day, which is whenever the sun is out. Once the sun dissapears bellow the horizon, they wait until Veos appears before eating. During this period, they can only eat basic food, like bread and water. Any kind of meat is prohibited, as are dairy products and alchohol. On the 14th, they have a meal together with family and friends.

Last moon

This holiday was imported to Northenghor and later Naurcia and Alvaros from the region of Rumalia. It is simply a celebration of the last full Veosian moon of the year, which occurs on the 16th of December. It concists of feasts and family/community gathering. Overall, it it much more related to Magic, rather than religion, which is why it was able to transcend regions and expand its reach across eastern Arros.

Priesthood

All Soulmages are held in high regards in Choranism, but the ones who are able to enter the Ether itself during The Dusastryka ceremony or another similar ritual are held at a much higher regards and can even be seen as something closer to demi-gods. These mages are called Messengers and are the only ones who are permitted to become priests in a Choranian Temple.

Sects

The religion can be divided into two broad denominations, each containing sects of their own. The two main Choranian denominations are Orthodox Choranism and Reformed Choranism.

Western/Old/Orthodox Choranism

This denomination is present in the northern half of Enask, most of western Arros and the Tomboraan plateau in Mahador. Its main city is Aksa on the western coast of Enask. While Tomboraan Choranism is included within Orthodox Choranism for the sake of conveniance and for historical reasons, since its founding were of Orthodox origins, many theoligists argue that Tomboraan Choranism should be considered its own sect, independant of Aksa's Influence.

Eastern/Reformed/Raunish Choranism

This denomination is present in most of Central and eastern Arros, as well as the Vechor Islands, south-east of mainland Arros. Its main cities are Aleida, in the KIngdom of Alvaros and most importantly, the city of Raune, in the Kingdom of Naurcia Kavasian Choranism and Vechorian Choranism are considered semi-independant sects of Raunish Choranism, but largely follow the same general rules and religious calendar, especialy since the 4th Council.

Religious Celebrations

Veos holds great importance to Choranism as it is widely known that this moon has a great positive effect on the powers of soulmages, particulary when it is full. The lunar cycle of Veos is extremily predictable in the Common Calendar and gathering are held every 4 weeks, either on the 14th, 15th or 16th of every month, during Veos's full phase. They also celebrate Laris's birth and death.

Holy sites

The faith has multiple holy sites around Enask, Mahador and Arros. The holiest site is probably the Temple of Choran located in the Dorroman Mountains , upon a cliffside overlooked by Mount Agadir. This mountain, which straddles the border between Paxolia to the south and Rumalia to the north, is also a holy site for Choranians since they believe that Laris Choran ascended to the Heavens by climbing to its top.
