Graxin Spider

The Graxin spiders are the largest known species of spider and arachnid in Hysal. They live in large colonies built in the rocks of the large desert regions of Samaria and Mahador. These spiders are very large, standing on their eight, multi-jointed legs at over 1,5 metre high and 2 metres wide. They are very fast and can jump a couple foward or upwards as they chase their prey. Their bodies are grey while the head and legs are black. They have 4 main eyes at the front of their head, and a pair of eyes on both sides. All 8 eyes are red. The baby's bodies are pale beige and grow darker as they age.   They are known to build giant webs across the canyons of the The Great Sh'maari Desert, where their main prey, Dragon flies, live and reproduce in the rare water ponds and streeams at the bottom of these canyons. Using their acidic saliva, the females are able to form holes into the soft sedimentary rocks near the webs by spitting on the rock and disolving it. During the spring, the female makes a nest and lay a couple hundred eggs, which will hatch during summer.   During the day, they sleep in their webs which are protected from the harsh sun and hot temperatures by the rock canyons and crevases. At night, they leave their webs and crawl out of the canyons and crevases to hunt for food. While they live in colonies, they do not hunt in groups. However, if one is attacked, they will send a high-pitched shriek to alert the other spiders within a radius of a couple hundreds of metres.   When they attack, they will try to shoot webs at them if the prey is close enough while if it is too far or getting away, they chase after it and then shoot webs at their legs to immobolise it. Once the prey is immobolized, the spider quickly wraps them in a slightly acidic web, creating a cocoon around them. The acid of the silk can irritate the skin and burn the fur of any prey. The cocoon is then dragged back to the colony, were it is then attached to the large webbing for later consumption.   Graxin Spiders are known to live in the ruins of The Lost city of Asghoraan. The city's ruined buildings and monuments are infested with large numbers of spiders, as they find the dark interiors of the buildings to be nice nesting spots. For this reason, the city of Asghoraan's name means City of Spiders in the old Khartian languages and that translation became a popular nickname in the Essanian Empire.

This was a nice article to read ! I like that the nesting and the babies were brought in, as it gives me love for those creatures, which seems terrifying. I'm now wondering if they stick to dragon flies or if they chase after people too ? Are they feared ? Used ? Anyway, I would love to learn even more about them !
