The Dragon Towers
The Dragon Towers are a series of large and tall beacon towers located in the western half of the kingdom of Nan-Tao. The oldest towers have been constructed during the first age and form a line that goes from the Great Serpent Walls to the capital of the kingdom, the City of Shenjin. New towers are also said to have been built beyond the Great Serpent Walls to guard a very important road that goes further west, into the unknown parts of the world.
Purpose / Function
The purpose of these towers are to alert the capital of Nan-Tao as well as the emperor himself of an attack on the western border of Nan-Tao, either historically by the Bashrani or in modern times, by the Shadows that come from the Thiber plateau and the Osian Far-North.
Alterations
Multiple expansion and renovations of the towers have been commissioned by various Taonese emperors over the thousands of years of its existence.
Architecture
From what has been gathered from the few witness accounts that we have of these far flung structures, these towers are said to have a large square base with walls that gradually tapers of towards the top, making in so the top of the tower, which is located around 50 metres above the ground, is slightly smaller in size than the base. They are made of grey or blackish stone and have no windows. At the top, a fire pit is kept well stocked with firewood that can be lit at a moment's notice.
History
The Dragon towers system started being built during the First age as part of the Western wall of Nan-Tao, to alert the capital of an attack on the walls. It has since been expanded and now includes a series of towers west of the wall, forming a line towards the unknown lands west of the walls.
