Albion
Albion was a Kingdom found in Lisanricia during the Talamhic Dark Ages. Chroniclers call it an "ancestor state" to modern day Lysandus. It was founded in the year 4300 when the petty kingdoms in Lisanricia elected their first high king, Oswulf, in defiance of their weakened Dwarf Lords at Feller's Rock. At the height of it's power, the land extended from Anfeld to Miweck.
However, despite a period of 700 years of freedom, they were eventually conquered by the empowered Empire of Bolderun in the year 5000. It would be another 500 years until the Lisanricians would have an independent kingdom, this time called Lysandus formed by Aethel Ebenwald.
Structure
When Albion was formed, it was created by a council of defiant "Petty Kings" to the Bolderun Empire, which was in a weakened state. The Petty Kings thus declared independence at the Rock of Feller. There, they elected the greatest of their petty kings, Oswulf Longsword of Anfeld, and named him "High King of Albion". (As the region was traditionally called that by the Kellerites.) This was the structure for the entirety of it's history: when the king died, the council of Petty Kings would elect a new High King.
This allowed the smaller petty kingdoms to have significant power in themselves, and led to a weak figure head with the High King. However, it also assured that the most suitable ruler, and often the strongest of them, would remain in power so the kingdom would not fall apart. Otherwise, the Petty Kings ruled themselves almost independently as kings of their own domains.
History
Founding
In the year of 4300, the Empire of Bolderun was still forming, though the old kings of Lisanricia still had to follow the Dwarf King of the Golden City. However, the human lords of Lisanricia, growing rich and powerful from the fertile lands they settled in, decided to band together and form a new state in defiance of the rich Dwarf King. The Dwarf King attacked the city of Silver Town, within the Petty Kingdom of Ellis, to stop the rebellion. However, the Petty King of Anfeld, Oswulf the Longsword, came to defense to the King of Ellis. A skirmish commenced, and soon Oswulf the Longsword proved victorious. This action led the Petty Kings to assemble in Feller's Rock, the fortified city where the Lisanriks first declared their settlement. There, the Petty Kings agreed they needed a unified kingdom to keep themselves safe from their Dwarven neighbors. Thus they voted, and elected Oswulf the Longsword as their first High King. According to chroniclers of those days, Oswulf was a fair and just king. However, when he died in 4320, Albion fell into disarray as a new high king was to be elected. The Petty Kings fought over who should be king, and temporarily elected Percen I "The Wise" of Ellis as the new High King. To settle their dispute when he died, he crafted an enchanted sword named Answerer and placed it within the Rock of Feller. He declared, "whoever is TRULY worthy to succeed after me as the King of Albion will be able to lift this sword from the stone." In the year 4330, when Percen the Wise died, none of the Petty Kings were able to lift the sword from the stone. Thus, much search was made for a new High King of Albion, and many went to the Rock of Feller to try and lift the sword for themselves. Until it could be lifted, no new King of Albion was chosen.Disbandment
After 700 years, the Petty Kings began to fight for control and power again, taking more and more authority away from the High King. They had forgotten the reformed Empire of Bolderun to their west. Then, in the year 5000, the Empire of Bolderun invaded the weakened Albion. The Lisanriks were forced into submission once again as they were disunified. More Dwarves began to inhabit the lands of Lisanricia due to the conquest. Thus, the Lisanriks lost their homeland, and yearned for a return for 500 years, forced to live under the power of the Dwarven Emperor.
