Chapter 2 - The Storm

General Summary

Rashida deciphered the draconic code, learning that Captain Oranos was responsible for a scheme: he was illegally transporting citizens into Tallian territory to make them into slaves and then sell them, and the head of this operation was at Demetria, an obscure island. The party returned to Arokas to reveal this scheme, and the legate was shocked that such a scheme happened under his nose. He told the party they would search for the escaped captain, and would have the party come along with him.
But what is Demetria? It is an island abandoned ages ago. Legend has it that a vile Medusa dwells on that island, waiting for those to visit her so that she may cruelly turn them into stone for her own amusement. But could such legends be true?
The rest of the day was spent with the party going their separate ways. Creetens began another scheme to trick people of Oenens into thinking they could see a "real harpy" in a tent. He got into trouble with a local paladin named Inochus, who threatened to lock him up. Creetens used his charming magic to persuade the paladin otherwise. He collected gold from his scheme and then fled.   Meanwhile, Theden decided to join the local arena. The local Arena Headmaster, an Amazonian named Klara, assigned him the role of "Saggitarius" and had him fight with a bow and gladius. He was challenged by a Half-Orc named "The Green Fury" who raged at him. Theden's life was put into peril by the barbaric gladiator, but Theden ultimately won. Thus Theden was paid handsomely and took on a gladiatorial moniker, "The Black Badger".   For Rashida, she investigated the sightings of a local cult which was making men drunk. She had the party come with her into the northern woods, only to discover the men of the town partying with a Satyr. The Satyr worked well with Creetens, but eventually the party ruined his bash. Then, Creetens tried to manipulate the Satyr with his enchanting magic but enraged the fey. Eventually the party defeated the Fey and collected their reward.   The next day, the party met with Arokas who was taking a small legion of troops to help them find Captain Oranos. They went out from Oenens, going onto the Sea of Dragoncrest once again. On the converted pirate ship, the party came across a terrible storm. Arokas and the crew tried to row away, but the storm overcame the ship. To make matters worse, a merrow was in the water. The ship was torn apart by a wave, and the party fought the merrow to preserve their lives. The ship ended up sinking, and much of the crew was lost. Arokas and the party drifted toward the shore of an island, not knowing where they were or how to escape.
Jethro: Oooh, this is getting exciting sister! That ship sinking was quite thrilling. And Creetens nearly left the party to die. Imagine that.
Theodora: I worry about that one Creetens. He continues to get on the bad side of Theden. At the same time, I grow amused at this dysfunction. I wonder how well they shall fare on the desert island?
