Chapter 25 - The Fate of the Dragonlords

General Summary

After the defeat of Ydrith the Devourer, the Dragonblazers proclaimed that a feast be made in the rescuing of Keller's Coast. Within the next few days, the town of Keller's Coast prepared a mighty feast and paraded the dead body of Ydrith throughout the city. King Mortimer Darius publically proclaimed the Dragonblazers as Dragonlords. However, the feast would eventually die down, and King Mortimer told the party that he would be gathering the armies of Lysandus at Amagus Tower.   Meanwhile, in a dream, Riley Woodhame was confronted by Vivian once again. She commended him for his service, and gave him one final task: to awaken King Beorhtric, the old Keller king, and force him to fight for the nation. Beorhtric's soul had been reluctant to get back into service. So, Riley and company went out from Keller's Coast to Castle Drulikak. Castle Drulikak contained a portal to the realm of Vivian. The party stepped inside, and Slytoff was interested in a shiny thing he saw in the void. The party tried to approach it, but they were confronted by defeated spirits, all of them slain by Fatebendr, who wanted vengence.   After the party defeated the vengeful spirits, they came to Beorhtric, who tried to trick them into taking his pact. They saw past his lies and defeated him in combat. Beorhtric submitted, realizing he would forever be in Vivian's servitude. Then, to all of the party, Vivian appeared with the sword Dragonslayer in hand. She told the party they had to be swift, as their time in her realm passed a week and the army of Lysandus needed their help. She gave Wulfric the sword Dragonslayer, and then had the party promptly teleported to Amagus Tower.
"I am not supposed to mess with mortal affairs, but the fate of Lysandus is dire, and I refuse to let Tiamat win over humanity again. I will face the wrath of Boldur later. Go swiftly!" - Vivian
The party ascended up the stairs of Amagus tower, being confronted by many knights, Half-Dragons, and Abishais to try to stop them along the way. The party carved through them. Wulfric occasionally used the catapults in the building against the knights. They finished the remaining Black Knights until they got to the final doorstep, leading to the lair of the villainous Qenlynn Millerstone. Upon the battlefield, the armies of Lysandus went against a front of Danen, Orcs, and Black Knights. They pushed through the defenses, and the ghostly army of Beorhtric separated the enemy forces. Morgesk (injured earlier by Wulfric misfiring a catapult) took on an ancient black dragon. However, Morgesk would be slain, as well as Lord Foswell, Lord Wickam, and Lord Millerstone.
As the party fought the Black Knights and eventually Lady Qenlynn, King Mortimer led the armies of Lysandus against the Danen and the Black Knights. Many of the nobles died, but it was ultimately a victory for the kingdom.
Finally the party approached the top of the tower, where Lady Qenlynn, covered in blood, was in a draconic form. Her former skin was strewn across the floor. She taunted the party, telling them she would destroy all of them, and flew towards them with a fiery breath. Slytoff was knocked unconscious from the scorching breath, while Tequila and Riley were injured. Wulfric in a frenzy began to slash at the dragon, using Dragonbane to significantly wound her. In desperation, she banished Wulfric to the Nine Hells.   Tequila attempted to heal the party as Qenlynn flew away, but Qenlynn tried (and failed) to counterspell it. Slytoff was awakened and cast the spell Sickening Radiance against Qenlynn, but it did nothing to her in the draconic form. Gilliam tried to pick her off from the distance, hiding behind stone pillars, but kept missing. Riley attempted to deal with the dragon, stabbing her a few times with Fatebender, but she retaliated and knocked him out by biting him. Then, she picked off Tequila and Slytoff with her claws, knocking both unconscious. All that was left was Gilliam, now fearing for his life. Qenlynn spotted him and mocked him as she curled her head around the pillar he hid behind.
"My my, a little birdie for my first meal. How delicious..."
Just then, however, Wulfric managed to free himself from the banishment, and ran at the dragon with Dragonslayer. He stabbed her once more, causing her to cough up blood. She flapped her wings to slow him down and fly away. However, Gilliam got a sudden bout of bravery, and then chased the dragon in the air. He spotted a weak point: her eyes. Thus he stabbed right into her eyeballs with his rapier, stabbing her brain, and causing the dragon to collapse. Qenlynn was slain.   Wulfric checked on the others, rehabilitating his friends. They heard the battle come to an end, seeing over the ledge of the tower that Lysandus had won the battle. The heroes, now awake and well, took the treasure and the Sword of Tiamat that Qenlynn had and burned it in the lava around the tower. They then descended to the battlefield, where King Mortimer Darius bowed to them.
“Thou truly are the greatest knights of the land. All the children of Lysandus owe you their eternal gratitude and debt. Yet, we have great rewards for you and your descendants. The cities of Keller, Obesfeld, Orwood, Silver Town, and Feller’s Rock will be yours to rule, and you will sit at the Council of the Round Table, the highest honor in the land.”
Thus, the party was cheered, and they traveled back to Keller's Coast to once again feast in the victory of Lysandus. The night afterwards, Riley was once again met by Vivian. She commended him for his bravery and told him that Beorhtric was now laid to rest, since his task was done. She gave Riley a choice: he could be free of the pact, as he finished his task, or he could continue to be her eternal champion. Riley liked the sound of the latter, and agreed to be in her service forever.
