Session 12 - The Slaying

General Summary

As the party got into a fight, Augustine quickly grabbed Org and tossed him out the window. Amelie used Feather Fall to catch Org safely. Sunjar then shoved Augustin out the window, but the vampire clung onto the side of the walls. Augustin fired a Finger of Death spell at Sunjar, and scurried down the wall. The people on the top of the roof were soon affected by ginormous pyres of fire and necrotic energy, as well as ghosts and skeletons attacking them. Terra got possessed by a ghost and started to fire at her friends under the ghost's control.   Augustin summoned more skeletons, and stayed on the wall to blast spells at the party in hopes of injuring them. Org, Sunjar, and Amelie dueled the ghosts that were causing problems. They slew and smote them, and eventually Terra was freed from the possession. Pyres of fire continued to erupt, blasting the party, but they managed to dodge the effects of the pyres.   On the ground now, Augustine made attempts to flee. He was followed by Thimbleswipe and lit aflame with alchemist fire. Now ablaze, the vampire tried to run to get the fire put out. The arena got covered in mist, and swarms of bats began to chase the adventurers. Terra summoned a Dire Wolf to help them fight off the bats, giving the adventurers the time to chase the vampire Augustin. Amelie gave chase to try and sock Augustine, but Augustine cast Bestow Curse upon her to stop her. Augustine then nabbed an eager Amelie and tried to consume her blood. He dragged her around the roof. Amelie blasted Augustine with a Shocking Grasp, which wounded his face.   Sunjar and Org surrounded Augustine. Backed into a corner, the vampire cast True Polymorph on himself, turning into a Nabassu Demon and hoping to slay them with necrotic energies. However, this did little to protect him from Holy Avenger, which Sunjar smote the demonic power with. After slashes and cuts and plenty of shocks from an angered Amelie, Augustine lost his demonic form, and tried to make a run for it. He was then slain by Sunjar in the attempt to run, his body turning into mist and escaping through the floor to his coffin.   The Crusaders of Larian gave chase, going into the dungeons and finding a hidden room where his coffin lied. They pushed open the coffin, seeing Augustine resting. Then, Thimbleswipe took the javelin stake they prepared, and pierced the heart of Augustine. Augustine cried aloud as he was stabbed, and then breathed no more.   Amelie was given a dagger to cut off the head of Augustine, and they took his body and laid it in the shallow grave Cawkens had dug hours earlier. They returned to Mateo, who was grateful to see them all well. They returned to the mortal realm of Talamh, and came to King Philippe with the head of Augustin. King Philippe compensated the party, but was sullen to see such pain and suffering had to happen in the kingdom to make things right again. He then granted the party their many requests: the equality of dwarves, a chance for monsters to redeem themselves, to make Mateo the Archmagistrate, to find Terra's old husband, and to give Lady Jeffery a title of nobility. The party took the time to return to Vine and gain the Headband of Intellect from the wizard there, and made Jeffery finally sentient (though she did not like that very much).
After the adventure, the party remained in contact with each other for years. There paths went different ways, but also coincided more than once.

Amelie Dumas

Amelie Dumas by MrCrackerpants
Amelie remained in contact with her friends, and returned to her family to live a peaceful life. She still studied magic, and used it to help her family through many hardships and times to come. Especially with a Danen attack on the city of Vine, which she helped quell with the help of King Philippe. She, however, grew a distaste for necromancy when all things were said and done. She remained true to her words toward Augustine: she would not cheat death. She grew to be an old woman, and eventually passed away, though she had children to preserve the generations of Dumas. And the family has remained ever prosperous. Perhaps you have tried Dumas cheese? It is a delicacy.

Org Orgenson and Lady Jeffery

Org remained a loyal knight to Lady Jeffery. The pig princess eventually found a duke, and they had many piglets. Org became Knight Protector of her estate at Castle Jeffery (once called Castle Odo). Unfortunately for pigs, they do not live very long. When Jeffery died, Org held a funeral with his friends for the passing of the bravest pig in all of Talamh. The titles of nobility passed to Jeffery's eldest son, and the generations that followed. Thus the domain of Castle Jeffery became a pig haven in the lands of Gotha, and monsters were encouraged to become her loyal knights. Orcs, goblins, and kobolds alike became knights to the Domain of Pigs. Org himself lead this knightly order until the end of his days.

Terra

Terra found her betrothed, a man named Cydric who was captured by Halfian knights. Sunjar was the once who married the two. Terra had many children, but remained in the lands of Gotha, with her father's permission. She never forgot her family. As the 70 years passed, however, her husband died, and she remained. Such is the tragedy of elf and men having matrimony. She never forgot Cydric, but now she protects the forests of Gotha, looking for love and adventure once again in her next hundred years.

Thimbleswipe

Thimbleswipe by MrCrackerpants
Thimbleswipe only asked for money from Philippe, and money he gained. He used the money to become the wealthiest fairy that ever lived. He brought it back home, and partied and celebrated for a long, long time. In his greed, however, he still sought more money, and continues to adventure in the lands of Eiren to this day.

Sunjar-Navi Goldray

Sunjar Goldray, the Devoted by XSnaerSnareX
Sunjar's fate was tested. As the quest was over, he was confronted by Boldur again, who gave him a choice: come to Shalvalla now, as he earned his valor. Or to remain on Eiren, to bring a great revival to the dwarves of the lands for their religion. Sunjar-Navi chose the latter. Sunjar sought vengeance for his father, slaying the dwarf high priest who usurped him and exposing his corruption. Sunjar-Navi told the Dwarves of Vanu-Am, bringing into questions centuries of religious practices. He was seen as Incarnate, and thus his words and wisdom have affected the religion of the dwarves to this day, especially with his parables.   He was the first to see Gromherjek, a green dragon that scoured the lands of Lisanricia. Him and other adventurers slew Gromherjek's bride and children, and drove the dragon away from the Dwarf lands to remain safe for the time being. Sunjar-Navi, however, knew the dragon would return...

King of the Goths, Philippe Percival

Philippe in the Garden by Paradox Entertainment
After the year 4282, King Philippe married a fair maiden by the name of Claire, who sung him songs within his court. In 4284, Queen Claire birthed a son, whom Philippe named Gabriel in honor of his father. Philippe had many other children, including a daughter Ieasbreda, named after his late half-aunt.   Long was the reign of King Philippe I. Until his death in 4340 (at the age of 81), Philippe proved to be a strong-willed and righteous king for a period of 50 years. From his experience among the common folk at a young age, he regularly visited his lessers and learned from his earls and mayors on fixing the problems of the realm. For instance, he lowered taxes for his vassals, and kept a closer eye on the threats toward his kingdom on an internal level.   In remembrance of Sunjar-Navi, Philippe gave more liberties to the dwarves of the land. He revoked the law that required them to cut their beards, and allowed further religious freedom, to worship their god Boldur in peace. Though trials came between the race of men and dwarves, Philippe showed wisdom (and a hard hand) in bringing peace.   Another law enacted, not so popular with the nobles, was to expand the lands of Halfia and give the Halflings more autonomy to govern themselves as republican vassals. Mayors and governors were thus appointed in the Halfian lands, loyal to King Philippe who watched their realm carefully.   In the later days of his reign, Gotha was raided by Danen forces, to which King Philippe repelled through negotiation rather than through might. As Oswulf of Albion threw Ormulf into a snake pit, Philippe was appalled by the cruelty, and warned the men of Albion that, “the Danen are a vengeful people. They will not forget this act. Keep your arms prepared, lest you be overtaken by them.”   Philippe did not live to see the fate of Albion, dying from his old age in the year 4340. He was succeeded by his elderly son, Gabriel II.
Thus ends another adventure, and the Chronicles of Talamh once again added upon. The tale of five adventurers who saved Gotha from being plunged into eternal darkness of Morganine and a Vampire's fangs. Where shall you be when the next one is written?
