I remember when I first learned about the heart of the fallen. I think I was seven or eight. It was a sad tale of a young woman who used it to save the man she loved only to be turned into a monster from her grief or being too late. At that age, it was just a story to teach me not to mess with forbidden magic. Kind of wish I listened to that and kept heed to its teachings. Maybe I could have saved a few people if I imparted what I learned, sadly you can't change the past.
I would later learn more about the history of the artifact. How it was forged out of energy from the realm of the fallen. How it was used to create the Lord of the fallen guardian. A warrior who could command the armies of the dead when their mistress wasn't around. A being incapable of death as long as they walk the mortal realm. At least that's what I was told. Which means the tale of tragedy is far worse than can be comprehended. As the woman was sealed away deep into the earth to live out her undying life until the world is taken by those who have fallen.
