The Red Dagger Murders

The Red Daggers were once a small-time thief's guild who worked as many of the thief's guild in the seven maulin kingdoms. These thieves were good and did many jobs for some of the kings and queens of the kingdoms. That was till the thief's assassinated a king of one of the cities, one they did a lot of work for and was helping them become something more than a simple thief's guild.
This treachery was reward with the whole guild slaughtered and broken. With every survivor hunted down and executed amongst the people. For a time things were calm until the first corrupt official was found dead with evidence showing his hand in the overthrowing of the king and other crimes against the seven kingdoms.
It was after this that more began to show up. Not just those tied to overthrowing the dead king, but any doing things against the kingdoms or the people. It was these murders that brought forth the sins of many in the kingdom. Many wanted this killer stopped and others cheered for the cleansing they brought amongst the kingdoms.
The common thing amongst these murders were the red daggers left in the corpse of the corrupt official. The tool of the red dagger thief's guild. -Worcai ov Talion

Summary

The legend is that those who are wicked and corrupt will be killed by the phantom of the red dagger guild. That the sin of the past shall be revealed and that only when honor is restored with the phantom finally slumber.

Historical Basis

The Death of the Chancellor

The Chancellor of the third kingdom was found dead in the throne room. Surrounded by letters to and from seedy business allies and criminals. He also had a red iron dagger similar to the red dagger guild, embedded in his chest. Through some investigation, it was found that he had a hand in the murder of the king and when the bodies of his associates began to be found with red daggers in them it was obvious that we had someone with a vendetta against these traitors.

The Hunt for the Killer

The investigation lead the sin hunters to look back into the original members of the red dagger thieves guild. Most have been killed in the original assault of the guild headquarters. Though it was believed some of the young ones got away. Most of the sin hunters at the time felt it best to not hunt down the young ones as they might not have had any hand in the assassination of the king. That and there was no record of them since only the older members carried the mark of the guild.
Though the expected killer of the recent corrupt officials was believed to be one of the young members who wanted to avenge them. With further investigation we couldn't locate the killer and only found links between the future victims and the conspiracy they were part of. Thus we were left with no threads to follow once the killings stopped.
