Galthak, "Bearkiller"

Galthak, known as the Bear-Killer, is currently a principal at a prestigious magic school, where he furthers the machinations of his patrons.
In a time when the Empire had caused great uncertainty throughout the land, those of the mountains sought to enact vengeance for years of tyranny. Galthak was raised in such an age, where all his kin were taught to curse every aspect of the Empire, and were trained in the path of destroying it. Yet his destiny would be transformed before he ever reached the lands that he was born to burn. From a young age, he began having strange dreams. In a thousand dreams, he found himself walking through burning forests, and in ancient craters. He spoke nightly to a strangely wonderous creature that seemed to understand him.
When it came time for Galthak and his companions to raid the Empire, his desire waned thin. Food, ale, flattery, and the promise of riches stilled his blade. Rather, he turned on his people and in doing so slayed one of the sacred bears that accompanied him. In doing so, his fate would be sealed as a pact was formed with the unholy. Fire surrounded him as he plunged his sword deep into the side of the last great bear. A circle of crackling damnation beckoned him and from the midst, a familiar voice spoke to him. In an instant the pact was made, and Galthak "Bearkiller was filled with a denizen of the darkness.
Due to the nature of the pact he is now in, Galthak struggles with the dual nature he finds within himself. He is brutal by nature and decisive, yet his patron binds his hands often, preferring to plot and wait within the shadows. The students who encounter him notice an erratic nature, a rage bound only by a single thread. The manipulations of the darkness ward off his unnatural rage, beckoning the students to become just as he is. With every generation, the fiend grows stronger, and its supposed care for Galthak weakens.
