Isternam

Lightning illuminates the perpetually dark skies above the island of Isternam in twin flashes. The tower of the Prince is struck again and again. The spires are blackened and crumbling around the inhabitants. Fire burns along those walls, a false essence of magic, a warning to all that would fall under the deception of the Prince. Ceaseless.   Behold the Kharaag. The Tower, the Fires, and the Lightning draw many towards it. Legends and myths have been spoken of this place, and most of these mysteries are true to some extent. This is the reason that has brought many to her shores, people hailing from many different creeds, lands, and faiths. Adventurers seeking the esoteric knowledge found within fight one another on the white sands of this land.   The secrets found within the deathless flames are the knowledge of the forgotten past and future events. Complete understanding is at the fingertips of any brave enough to reach out and take it.   Across the Isle of Isternam are the remains of ancient battles. Lying in ruins are many lost cities, where those who seek the true knowledge remain hidden, recuperating between each skirmish. Dark Patrons whose influence lies beyond the veils of reality watch intently as these groups fight and die, gaining strength from wanton sacrifices and the open graves.

Geography

Pristine beaches of white sands surround the island, covered with bright shells of swirling oranges and reds. Small two-headed birds and dog-like animals are commonly found running along the shores and scrounging for food. Scattered across the sands are the remains of offshore wreckages, the ships destroyed by the storms and pirates. Rotting wooden planks are mixed with the other trash on the shore. It is not unwise, however, to search these sands for hidden valuables. Many footprints can be seen of man and beasts like leads further into the Island. The massive forests have been physically altered to create 'doorways'.   Despite being plotted through by many, the forests are still wild and free, unchained by civilization. Massive hazel trees and redwoods are common. Perhaps it symbolizes the attainable wisdom and the strength that carrying it shall bear upon the shoulders of the heroes. Most of the light is blocked off by their leaves. Several walking trails can be seen, though nature has tried desperately to reclaim and grow over them. Most will lead to the destination, however, some are purposely made to lead into traps and ambushes. Alongside many of these trails are sub-trails which lead to points of interest. Encampments and strongholds have been built in these hewn-out circles. There are also many ruins of past attempts, whose walls now harbor the unknown species of birds that fly overhead. Morning and night their songs are heard.   Deeper still is the faux mountain range which holds the greatest of power. Steps have been hewed into the stone of the mountain, leading to the Prince's Tower which lies at its peak. The tower presents itself as uninhabited, though many reside within it. An unlocked gate welcomes all that would dare come in.

Localized Phenomena

The Headless.
The Headless phenomenon is caused by the islands true inhabitants. The skull is believed to hold the secrets of the people, and through a dark ritual, the persons history and motivations can be shown.

No grave can hold the bodies down. Hundreds of fallen warriors and adventurers are found without heads. No ancient corpse is seen with one.
  Double Lightning
Lightning flashes in pairs, and there is a steady wind that surrounds the Island. The Goddess has brought this forth to keep her children away from the unholy machinations that is found within these lands. Sadly, the presence of the storm draws in more adventurers for it appears as a sign of power.

A continuous storm surrounds the island, drawing curiosity these waters.

Fauna & Flora

Pteros are a dog-like animal, roughly the size of a German Shepherd. They are thick, with hair that stands on end which they use to navigate their surroundings and to withstand many weapons. They have several protruding bones along their skulls, forcing their skin to cover their eyes. Despite their presence on the island, it is rare to see them in groups, for they are very territorial with their owners.   O'laran are a group of bipedal lizards found close to the base of the mountain. Despite being unremarkable in appearance, they possess some psychic abilities, allowing them in large enough groups to assume control of a person's mind. Their lack of intelligence and brutal nature causes this occurrence to be short-lived, though devastating.
