The Sanctuary

All manners of people come to The Sanctuary. Those with secrets that weigh heavily upon their shoulders, those that have failed drastically or couldn't fulfill a major oath find solace here, as do workers of evil seeking to escape the law. Some that come to the sanctuary have simply gotten tired of their current lives, and desire peace at any cost. The Sanctuary is found atop a great mountain expanse, where the Scarlet Wyredslite is abundant. Small pieces of this material are relatively common, though usually ground into a fine powder and used as a artificial light source. Sanctuary is built around a massive gemstone, over ten foot, which jutted from the ground. On nights when both moons are at their weakest, or a storm has blocked the light for longer than usual, the strange crystal will begin to emit it's own light, glowing with an even stranger magic.
The inhabitants gather around the gem during those days, kneeling close to it, and simply wait simply wait. The crystal slowly drains their memories, and the very essence of who they are, shining brighter with every piece of them it consumes.
The effects only last, as long as there is no light. Most forget their names, and enough of their past to start anew, leaving the Sanctuary to begin a new life. If the darkness is far too short, or the person has too many memories, only a portion will be forgotten, though the person can return, or stay until they can have their desired results. Some are very unlucky, for the light of the sun does not return and break the trance. They are left with no knowledge, speechless, and without any knowledge of a world beyond the Sanctuary. These remain, feeding on the vegetation that grows around, and eventually work as helpers and defenders of those arrive.

Infrastructure

The buildings there are the remainders of a forgotten age, wooden structures that bear the symbols of old gods. No new buildings have been built in many years.
