Carbon clouds are a weather phenomena that consist of strong winds carrying particles of ash, debris and
Sertinphus, often wrongly assumed as being "carbon" because of the early reports made on Zero Day about a carbon meteor passing the planet.
STAGES
Carbon clouds pass in stages, but they may leave carbon pockets that emit the virus into the air.
STAGE 1
The winds pick up, but no cloud is seen. Detectors may catch the activity and immediately sound alarms, as evident in the Walls.
STAGE 2
The cloud is visible on the horizon. Small carbon particles can be seen, and risk of infection is higher, although no cause for immediate concern. Take shelter as soon as possible.
STAGE 3
The cloud is in the distance. Anyone outside is at immediate risk of infection, and winds pick up more. TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY.
STAGE 4
The cloud is overhead. Once the sun is blocked out, anyone outside is guaranteed to be infected. If the winds are strong enough, there will be damage to unenforced buildings and people can be shredded by the dust. This stage lasts anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour.
STAGE 5
Reminiscent of Stage 3, the cloud successfully passes over and, depending on the magnitude, it can deposit carbon pockets around the afflicted area. It is recommended to stay sheltered until the area is cleaned by local authorities.
STAGE 6
The wind dies down successfully, and those who leave shelters are required to wear gas masks or other filtration systems in order to ward off infection risks. Carbon pockets could be nearby, so masks are required until the pockets are sanitized successfully.
TIERS
Depending on the speed of the accompanying wind, a carbon cloud bears a different threat.
TIER 1
The carbon cloud passes slowly over an area, depositing more infected ash as a result of its longevity. The duration of most is for several hours.
TIER 2
The carbon cloud passes over quickly, but not dangerously so. It is the most common type of carbon cloud, usually persisting for a couple of hours.
TIER 3
The carbon cloud is categorized as a carbon storm, as the dust flies at such a speed that it may act as shrapnel and shred through both structures and any Ciphrinians unfortunate enough to not take shelter. Often, they fly over very quickly, passing in a matter of minutes.
TIER 4
Similar to a hurricane, the carbon cloud has a powerful and sustained wind that allows it to remain present for hours, all whilst wreaking destruction wherever it travels.
ABNORMAL
Occasionally, a carbon cloud of any tier will persevere for days on end. In such a situation, death and destruction are mutually assured.
CAUSES
Little is known about the causes of carbon clouds. Radical theories may claim that the clouds have minds of their own, and even control the wind that carry them, but this is highly unlikely.
