As star ships traversed the cosmos in search of a new, safe home, fuel shortage threatened to become the ultimate killer of life.

The search for safety proved to be a long and arduous process for all organic life. Fuel was a non renewable resource that was bound to run out, sooner or later. When shortages began, fights amongst the travelling star ships became frequent, and people made efforts to salvage what they could to make it to safety.   The crisis only came to an end when an Ysoki ship discovered a way to drain mages (mystics and technomancers alike) of their life force and utilising it as a non-renewable source of fuel. This event ended the fuel crisis and began the Arcane fuel industry.
