Marakesh (MER-uh-kesh)
Marakesh is a roaring city in the middle of the bay, a popular stopping spot for tradespeople, tourists and travelers alike. It resides directly in the middle of the bay, an actual peninsula, with water on three sides of the city. Marakesh has a population of 20,353 people, their numbers always rising. So much so that for years the main city has been spreading into the bay waters, and a good portion of the population now live on rafts or boats on the water, connected by flexible rope bridges and tethers. It is very expensive to buy actual land in Marakesh, but you can buy a boat and a tethered lot to anchor it in, for a slightly lower cost.
The main source of income for the city is its harbor and all of the naval pursuits associated with it, such as ferrying travel boats, trade boats between countries on the bay, as well as a large shipyard where many of the shipwrights of the world create their masterpieces, as well as many pirates... one of its main exports is alcohol, along with a reputation for ruthless mercenaries. Marakesh is in a prime position for the Company to keep an iron grip on trade in the Krironte Sea, as they have a toll to pass through called The Median, and massive chains passed between the sides of the bay to enforce it. The tolls are supposed to be split between Cornum and Murake equally, but they never are. Sarah Dumphar is the woman in charge of Marakesh, a female Human, and she demands respect from her populace.
The city has palisades along its land barrier, long, wooden-spiked walls along the entire southern border. Agnes Appleton

Generally she gets it. In this city, humans are the dominating race, but one's station is changeable, if you have the guts and determination to do it. Sarah is in excellent physical shape, as one has to be to fight for power in a city such as Marakesh. She wears multiple thin layers, decorated plainly, over arms covered in tattoos. She can sometimes be seen wearing a turban, and will always wear a sort of mantle over her shoulders and neck. Her hair is a wild streak of white, naturally. Her face is scarred and worn from a life of hard work in the sun. She likes sophistication and considers herself a woman of culture. She enjoys a good test of wits, but if you actually compliment her, she'll be putty in your hands. Was married once but he is now out of the picture and took their daughter with him. She now focuses on keeping Marakesh in the power play it finds itself in, as well as defending the city from raiders, pirates, and other enemies of the Company. She doesn't typically bother with civillian squabbles, but genuinely cares about the peoples' happiness.

She resents family due to hers having abandoned her for her lack of... something. She never knew what. As such, she spurns affection and advances from admirers. The Scarlet, as its lovingly called, is located in the Median, just onto the land portion of Marakesh. The street outside is busy and shaded with large exotic trees, the ones around this establishment in particular seem to always boast bright red leaves, as if they were fed with blood over water. It is generally accepted that until you have won a fight to get in the door, you are not allowed inside the Scarlet. Marakesh is largely a human settlement, and is a touch racist as well. They'll keep their mouths shut if you can win your way in though. The building is a plaster and wood framed tower with red tiles for a roof. Furniture occupying the space is heavy and simple, it withstands bar-fights a little better that way. Several taxidermied birds of prey hang from the ceiling, trophies of the owners prowess. A rumor has it that one of them is a Fukibi, but its hard to tell... A small stage for performers is on the bottom level across from the bar.

To the surprise of most, Roge always wears flannel clothing when he can afford it, even in the stifling humidity of Murake's summers. However, he seems to be on a downward swing, as his clothes are patchy, and in a few places there are obvious holes and messy stitches. Its an odd contrast to the club he keeps as his primary weapon--its polished to a shine with an ornately carved black skull on it. His head is shaved and his natural hair color was black. His green eyes are dilate, desperate and twitchy. Has the appearance of an addict, and someone under the heavy influence of drugs.
Roge is aggressive, abrasive and angry; he spends most of his days drinking in the Scarlet-only allowed in because he actually wins some of his fights there, and the regulars find his disposition amusing. He gambles, wrestles, and listens to traveler's stories there.
He was born to a family of Jewellers, but they struggled due to a lack of capital to further their business and it went under. He appears to be a normal halfling, but is probably a little bit insane. He doesn't truly fit in his community; the only reason he has a job now is because a friend of his father's took him on as a shop boy, and that person later died. He stayed because the work interested him, even if he didn't really know what he was doing at first. (Still doesn't, just kind of muddles through). Because of his social disconnect, he turned to drugs and alcohol to cope with the loneliness.

This houseboat is just off the coastline of the Isles. Its hull is painted dark green, but because its always in the water, it could use another coat. The trimming on the rest of the ship is bright white. The roof is shingled a lighter dull green and ould be patched in a couple of places. The boat has a below deck pair of rooms, and one above. One room below is a bedroom, with two cots, a chest and a dresser. The other room is a small kitchen/storeroom with built in shelves and a hearth that shares a wall with the bedroom for warmth. Upstairs is a single utility room the previous owners used to house chickens at one point, so the singular coops are still present, even if the livestock are not. The deck is walled in with thin, patchily painted fencing, and a few chickens still freely roam the area.
Ferry Companies
There are two companies to catch ferries from in Marakesh, and around the world. There are other locals, but these two specifically will go anywhere, including interantionally. Ferryman are available at the docks any time of day or night. Opaline operates during the day, Tidal Taxis, around the clock.
Opaline Jet Co.
Opaline Jet Company is a nice, pretty ride, expensive and lucrative; but will go as slowly as possible and pack a few too many people on their boats. Charges by time ridden. The food is good, but there isn't enough to go around. Will get you from point A to point B at the biggest ports around the world, but will not go anywhere. Could be bribed to go to smaller ports, but the fee increases astronomically. High class, expensive, strict.
Tidal Taxi Ferries
Tidal Taxis is the do or die kind of ferry. The rates are low, based on distance and number of people being ferried, their ships are streamlined and plain, strong. The ride might be dull, and the food at subpar, but you'll get there, or your ferryman will die trying. Reliable, cheap, flexible.
Public Baths: Lagoona
These baths are open to the public and available in all sectors of Marakesh on land. They are run by water magic users in the Lagoona family (and hired hands), using the bay's waters and purifying devices. Locals are allowed to use as desired, given they have a pass for the bath; travelers, outsiders, and slums inhabitants without a bath of their own are to pay 3cp per person. Some hotels and business people will sell (5cp) or give you a bath pass.

Bones is a ghost that loves making maps, but before she was a ghost, Bones was Olivia Morgan, a Water Genasi that loved to sail the seas, and map them. Her ghost still looks as she did when alive, but translucent blue and smoky. She has a tint of blue to her brown skin, and her flowing hair floats as if she were eternally in an ocean of waves, even standing still. The way she was killed still lingers, a large hole in her abdomen and several links of chain falling through either side, larger around than her head-as if an anchor had cut her in half on its way to the seafloor... Her dress flows about her, sometimes covering the wound, and other times not. She has a rather positive disposition, for having been killed the way she was. Insists it was an accident in fact, though if you push the point she will get angry with you.

The Mapworks are located near the slums, but still on land in the Old Quarter. Not many people were willing to sell her property to operate a business out of, expecting her to possess them and her customers and all. The business is blue on the outside, a small building with a rather disheveled appearance. Bones can only do so much with the mundane world, after all, and lifting a hammer and nails to fix places were beyond that. the roof is a light blue tile that's cracked in several places. A small black chimney still smokes on one side. Inside the building is lit by a small lantern. Overflowing bookshelves covered in maps of almost everything line all the walls. Bones' desk is near the largest of the windows, covered in maps in progress, a globe, ink pots and pens, a moneybox, and various other small tools.
Bones doesn't get many visitors so she will either be distrustful or excited to see you. She especially loves people that can bring her new maps, though she does go out exploring on her own to a multitude of places a living person would never think to go. Bones is a surprising wealth of information, but won't give it up to just anyone.

The Blue Sun is in an upper noble neighborhood, Glassgate, among pretty brick and white buildings, it fits in. The building is a classic brick build with an oversized blue pane of glass in the roof, giving the whole space a blue tint. Glass displays and wooden models are spread throughout the space. Crystals and other shiny objects hang from the ceiling, catching the blue light and making it scatter at certain times of day.

Wears dark leathers embroidered at the edges with illegible symbols. Relatively dark fur and muscular build, amber eyes. He is a kind and carefree man, and a friend of Godfrey's. Considers himself quite the gentleman, and is a regular customer of the jeweller, always buying little presents for his lady friends. He seems to talk about manners quite a bit. Has always wanted to find hidden treasure, leading him to a life of hunting for clues in Murake. He was born in a small village in the deep forests of Murake. His father wanted him to take over his successful trade business, but Clerebold prefers hunting and killing for sport. Still has the trade routes, but has a hands off approach to them. Hireable and always looking for something interesting to do. May or may not have clues as to the location of a special treasure...
Ella is a tall (6'1"), slender black bird that wears a red turtleneck, green slacks and a brown coat. Her head feathers are quite long and so thin they look like true hair. She has orange eyes, heavy and burdened. (She's a non-human business owner in the slums... put the dots together.) Tends to only agree with her own thoughts and opinions, unless it sounds like she could benefit from something. Tries to control her temper, but can always hold back when something needs doing. Pushed towards her goals aggressively. Strangely, a coward when confronted.
As a child, her parents realized she had great singing talent and made sure she had every opportunity to thrive. Uses her singing to work her enchanting magic, among other things. May have studied with a siren or Oyatare earlier in life.

The Mirage is located in the waterborne slums. Between the Isles and the Glades in a less populated but still poor portion of the city. This boat is only visible to those that know of its existance. Business only comes around by word of mouth. To anyone else, the boat appears desolate but lived in, and to those that do, it appears iridescent and beautiful; a two-story house boat with lovely music drifting out of its stained glass windows. The floors aboard are highly polished hardwood. In the enchanting room on the second floor, the boards beneath ones feet are painted with a map of constellations, all interconnected with unrecognizeable sigils. Customers are only really welcome on the entry floor where the true shop is located. Everything sparkles and seems to sing its own song.
