The Three Divines
The Three Divines- Perune of the Dark, Ukalie, the White Doe of Light, and the great judge Ta.
Perune represents the dark of the world, our mistakes, evil, bad things, negative emotions and actions-and how we can learn from them. You can see that Perune is jealous of the neutrality that is Ta, as well as the light that is Ukalie, so he does spend his time away from the two creating.... things. Usually they are harmless as he can see that they are nothing like the light creatures the other two manage to put out into the world, and he destroys them, but every now and then one survives and escapes into the world... or does he let them go? Many use this theory to describe all the monstrosity and bad in the world, while the other two deities see it as a way to keep the many peoples of Cirke in line with a more... tangible form of justice.
Ukalie represents the purity and light of life. They don’t have a specific ‘gender’ but when they appear, they most often take the form of a white doe. To appreciate Ukalie’s light in its fullest form, one must also know Perune at his darkest.
Ta, the Great Lady as they call her, is usually considered the highest of the three divines. She is the unwavering judge of good and evil. As much as the other two show us our paths in the world, Ta judges how well we have followed their direction. Ta is merciful, but when karmatic justice is due, she rules with an iron fist.
This religion believes in reincarnation-to what life you will come back is random, there is no picking, for once your soul leaves your body, it is washed of all things impure in Ukalie’s waterfalls and allowed to soar into a new form. There is no ‘end’ to this reincarnating cycle. There is no heaven, only the world you live in.
There is no ‘book’ this religion follows, it is more of an oral tradition passed along by each generation.
As far as ‘praise’ goes, hymns are sung to the three, prayers asked of them, and sometimes dance is involved.
Art featuring these three usually depict Ta as a large, beautiful woman with long hair, dressed in green robes and all-seeing eyes of glowing blue or white. Many feature Ukalie in their doe form on one side of her, and Perune on the other. Sometimes they are shown as a humanoid male, other times as a mirror to Ukalie, etc. Both the Dark and the Light take on many forms in their art.
This religion believes in karmic justice, so while they don’t have a set of ‘rules’ like Christianity-the priestesses leading each temple keep the moral compass pointed North, and should the sheep stray too far from the path, the deities themselves make appearances to influence their believers on their path toward the dark or light-whichever they’re lacking in.
Marriage is conducted by a High Priestess of a temple, and they prefer to hold these ceremonies at dawn or dusk-when the dark and the light meet so that both may influence the couple going forward on their path of life together. Both parties dress in grey or black to recognize that they’ve made mistakes as humans will, and that they wish to embrace their mistakes and learn from them. Rings or necklaces are commonly made of wood and worn by the couple, but are not necessary.
Divorce is allowed, and while they don’t like it, and enforce a time of reflection before the final separation is made, they understand that sometimes this is the work of the Three themselves, and would never cross their wishes.
Children are blessings to followers of this religion, to have a child is to take on the protection of the soul itself, and they typically have large celebrations to ask the Three to guide them down the path of life with equal parts dark and light.
I think probably the biggest fear of their people would be Ta judging your soul to not be worth reincarnating, or for it to get lost on its way there.
Blessings depend on time of worship/prayer. Obvious day cycle. If you pray throughout the day you’re seeking Ukalie's guidance. Gains from this: better fortunes in whatever you’re praying about.
Nightfall or at Night in general, your prayers will go to Perune, he helps the balance of your energies, for fertility, for health and purging of evil.
Pray at twilight (dawn/dusk)- you get the blessing of Ta, and can more easily discern the intents of those around you.
