Remembering the Retired

As the City grows older and more generations pass, the need to remember those gone becomes more pressing. The Archives have since been established, and citizen records are now being produced; certainly, this is an improvement to the situation. However, epitaphs remain, for many, the preferred way to publicly remember and honor their own in a more personalized manner, and plaques and tombstones were, for a long time, the one way to do so.   While graveyards in the City are a luxury mostly reserved for residents of the Upper Levels, citizens beyond have adopted a similar practice, designating exterior walls of homes and other public structures where all can record the names, dates, and accompanying epitaphs for their loved ones. Culturally, these spaces of remembrance are also becoming significant as outlets for creativity, particularly amongst the younger generations. Murals have begun to appear around the City in a display of collective consciousness, and perhaps a way to claim autonomy.
