Eloiel the Blood Hawk

Eloiel, which means "Omen" in Old Tarsan, is the name of a large and oddly-colored hawk whose appearance is considered a portent of struggle and strife. Most of Eloiel's feathers are dark black, presumably stained with the soot of centuries spent in the pollluted air of the City of Ten Thousand Daggers. The only exceptions are the feathers on his wingtips and tail, which have a blood red coloration that gives the bird his name. His eyes and claws have a similarly unnatural red color. Eloiel is also unnatural large, with a wingspan of nearly eight feet.   An Eloiel sighting typically foretells bad luck only for those who lay eyes on the creature. The lucky among them get off light with only minor accidents or inconveniences, but a few inevatibly meet with more troubling (and often gruesome) fates. Wizards and charlatans inevitably cash in on Eloiel's appearance, selling amulets and protective magics that they claim can reduce the effects of laying eyes on the bloodhawk. A few inevitably say that they can fully protect a customer from the bloodhawk's misfortune, but anyone who makes such a claim is a brazen liar.   Although nobody wants to see Eloiel, his appearance consistently leads to nonstop gossip about where he's been spotted. If he chooses to roost on the upper towers of Castle Vargo, his appearance means strife for the entire city. The longer he stays there, the worse the tragedy that's about to strike. According to legend, Eloiel was spotted on the towers before numerous Horse Lords and Imperial invasions, in the days leading up to the Fifty Day Fire, and shortly before the invasion by Gr'thkor the Demon King.
