Prologue: Feudal Forest talk
Two paths interconnect in a world just created. It is this meeting that changes people, for good or bad.
The scene shows a man with blue hair in a skinny ponytail, wearing an ultramarine skintight bodysuit, and steel-toed boots, with a long spear in his hands. His name was Cu Chulainn, from Irish mythology, though he goes by “Lancer”, the class he is assigned. With him is what appears to be a rather cartoonish figure with a face that lacks any tension, a white-lab coat, and lacquer-colored hair, with a green bandanna as an accessory.
He looked like someone out of Phineas and Ferb. His name was Ben. After Lancer dealt with some demons at Kaede’s village, he met Ben and decided to travel to locate anyone. They were not sure what to expect, but thanks to Lancer’s warrior senses, he made quick work of demons and other beings in these woods.
“I think we’ve made good distance,” Lancer said, a little ahead of Ben. “Not sure if we’ll find anyone though.”
The mad scientist-looking dude responded with a smile. “I think we will; it’s a matter of positivity!”
Blinking with bewilderment over what he heard, Lancer shook his head ruefully. Though he found him odd, he didn’t dislike him.
As they continued walking, Lancer took care of shadow-like beings that took the form of random animals, called Grimm, and smaller creatures with antennae on their foreheads, and beady yellow eyes, heartless.
“There are monsters here I never saw before…” Lancer replied as he spun his red spear, Gae Bolg, effortlessly before it vanished.
Taking a few steps to the empty clearing, Ben knelt and examined the grass. “One of those beings is called Heartless.”
“Heartless? What are those?” the tall guy asked.
Ben took a few moments to respond, he didn’t want to say the literal deal that heartless were from a video game. “They are creatures that take hearts.”
“There are things like that?”
“Umm, sure. Though we did talk about coming from different worlds remember?” Ben brought up a conversation while they walked.
“Yeah. I can believe it since that old granny didn’t know what magecraft was when she saw me use it against those demons at her village.” He continued. “Though gotta say, I didn’t expect a human to have any powers outside magecraft.”
“Magecraft is magic, yeah?” Ben replied easily enough, getting up from his examination.
“It is, though the specifics vary.” Lancer said. “I can’t say I know the whole deal, except what my teacher taught me..”
“A teacher? She must have been a good one since you kick a lot of ass!” he smiled.
“I guess.” Lancer said returning a smile.
The two seemed to have bonded unexpectedly. Things were going well until…
“Get down!” Lancer yelled out as he grabbed Ben and forced him down as a projectile launched at them missed.
“Damn, I missed…” a man responded as he dropped in front of them. It was Archer, and he looked annoyed.
“You!” Lancer cried as he summoned Gae Bolg. “Your ass is here too?”
Archer folded his arms, and smirked. “I’d say the same to you, Lancer.”
Blinking with surprise, Ben had a look on his face. ‘I feel I've seen him before…wait!’ he thought as he had the answer. Before he could say anything, another figure popped in view behind Archer.
“This is where you were, Archer?” J asked gathering his breath. “I didn’t expect you to book it that fast!”
Archer turned to his companion. “You need to exercise more, wizard.”
J made a face at being called a wizard and saw Lancer and Ben. Eyes going wide, he summoned his book. “Are they enemies?”
“The one with the spear, maybe. Not sure about the other one.”
Looking at Ben, the mage had a perplexed look on his face. ‘That’s odd…’
It was a standstill between all four, and you would think a fight would start to settle matters. Though that did not happen. Stepping in front, Ben held up his hands at the opposing team. “We are not here to fight! We come in peace!”
Lancer, Archer, and the mage raised eyebrows to high heaven. Yes, they were all in synch with what was happening.
“I don’t know what history you guys have, but fighting won’t get anything done except people getting hurt, and that would be bad!” the wacky scientist replied as he gave them all a look.
Archer and Lancer glared at one another for a few moments before putting down their respective weapons. J on the other still held his book, as if he did not want to do that.
“Come on, kid, he has got a point, no need to spill blood in this place. Especially with these creatures on the loose.” The white-haired man spoke to his companion.
Heeding his ally’s words, J dematerialized his book, and the one named Ben's eyes glowed fascinated.
“You can do that thing too? The disappearing of an object?” Ben asked excitedly. Blinking a couple of times trying to keep up with this dude’s energy, J crossed his arms and turned away. Did I forget to mention he is a bit of a tsundere? Wonder where that came from?
“Of course I can, it’s basic if you know how…uhm” he motioned for the lab-coat man to reveal his name.
“My name is Ben!” He said giving a smile. “This here is Lancer! My traveling companion!!!”
Lancer scoffed at the duo in front of him but at least got a wave in.
Archer rolled his eyes and Lancer growled in annoyance. Seeing how this was not going anywhere, J replied with their names. “My name is J. The composed one is named Archer.”
“J? That is your name?” Ben asked curiously.
J gave roll of his eyes and responded. “It is what I go by. That is all you need to know.”
After that curt response, the four were quiet, trying to see what would happen next.
“Well, we are trying to find people, since we aren’t from here!” Ben said trying to bridge this gap between them. He tries his best, dammit! “We just came from a nice lady’s village! Where are you headed?”
Archer and J exchanged a look before the former responded. “We’re just scoping out this place, though you made it easy with saying there are at least people here.” He pointed behind, “There does seem to be another bigger city in that direction.”
“You aren’t going that way?” Ben asked.
“There’s nothing of value in that place except a headache!” J responded with irritation. “That’s not something I want to experience again!” Lancer looked at the teenager. “Seems like something’s there then...mind saying what occurred?”
J looked at the limber man and responded easy. “Nothing big, just not the vibe for me.”
“Vibe??? That is still a thing?” Ben asked.
The teen gaped at that and dropped his head. “How old are you grandpa?”
“No need to be mean, J!” Ben said making some face to show displeasure.
Giving a sigh, J held up his hands in defeat. “Okay, I’m sorry, man with no tension on his face!”
“What do you mean by that?” Asked Ben. “I have tension!”
“That’s not something to get excited about…” J replied and looked to Archer as if saying “can you help me, sir?”
Archer heaved his own sigh and stepped in. “Look, we are heading in another direction away from where you are coming from. He pointed in a different direction. “We are heading this way, seems to be others in that area. You can head to the place behind us.”
“Of course we are. No need to tell us where to go!” Lancer retorted. It felt like this interaction was about to end.
“Thank you for giving us directions!” Ben beamed at the duo. “Hope we meet again!”
J did another eyebrow raise but made sure to be polite. “I guess…stay safe dude.”
Hearing that effort, Ben smiled and gave a happy chuckle as Lancer shook his head and lifted him over his shoulders. “Be seeing you then!” With that, Lancer sprinted as if the devil was nipping at his heels, with Ben exclaiming why they were going so fast.
As the dust settled Archer looked at J, who had a hand to his chin, contemplating. “You, ok?
J took a moment to reply. “I’m okay but…”
“But what?”
The mage looked at the direction the odd duo went in. “I told you I can detect auras from anyone, right?”
Archer nodded.
“Well, that place, Rollinsberg? It had a lot of weird energy going around, it felt congested, and those tall buildings was suffocating. It was like some weird movie I feel like I watched randomly.”
The red attire man gave a response. “I will say, though it was not a bad place per se. Could use some cleaning up.”
“Most defiantly. However, I can note your aura,” J continued. “And that guy, Lancer? His aura is like yours, since he is a servant?”
Archer nodded again, saying the boy’s assessment was on the mark.
“What I’m getting at, I didn’t get anything from that guy with the purple hair!”
“It was light pink to me.”
“Really? It was purple though!”
“Does it matter what his hair color is?”
“No. Anyway, he gave no aura.” J said. “I am supposed to train to do that, to stay out of danger. Aura’s flicker with intent and emotion. But I got nothing from him.”
Archer looked at the direction Lancer and Ben went in. “He was odd, but nothing to feel threatened by, right?”
“I guess. It is not like he was some big bad. It is just odd…I hope I do not see him anytime soon.”
“Aww, what? You made a friend though.” Archer said giving a rueful smirk toward the mage.
“As if!” J said sulking.
So, the duo headed towards the direction and would soon be in a new area, where they would meet up with Archer’s former master.
For Lancer and Ben, they would be heading toward Rollinsberg, where some interesting things will happen; say for instance an introduction to a would-be superhero!
But that is stories for another time!
