Creagàrd

Near the top of the mountain of Bana-bhuidsich, there is a level area of ground known to the native inhabitants as Gleann Creagàrd, a plateau that overlooks the Giant’s Crown mountains of southern Slèitear Talamh. In the centre of Gleann Creagàrd, a great monolith rises above a stone henge. Towering over the surrounding mountain peaks, this monolith stands in veneration of the Ciadrì goddess of fate.   The priestesses who service the henge are known as the Bandruí, the leader of whom is the fabled Oracle of Creagàrd. The Oracle of Creagàrd provides the Ciadrì tribes with one of the only known links to the old world gods left in the world, the others being the distant Daraja Priests of Neskhenay and the mighty Awa xirself.

Purpose / Function

The monolith at Creagàrd has great religious and cultural significance to the Ciadrì people. As a monument to the goddess of fate, it is the destination of any pilgrims intent gaining the goddess' blessing on important endeavors, as well as those seeking the wisdom and foresight of the oracle.

Alterations

Erected in the distant past, a wooden henge originally encircled the monolith. At some point before the end of the Age of Light, this wooden construction was replaced with a henge hewn from stone.

Architecture

The henge consists of one hundred and sixty-eight stone columns arranged in six concentric rings, the outermost being about forty metres wide. The stone columns stand seven and a half meters high, and at the centre of the rings is a raised circular dias, one metre high, surrounding the base of the monolith. A curved bench at the middle of the dias holds space for the three Bandruí to be seated during ceremony.   The monolith itself is ovoid in shape and stands eighty metres tall, thirty metres in diameter at its widest point. It appears to have been carved from out of the mountain itself and has been polished to a perfectly smooth finish. It stands on an impossibly narrow base, with only the very tip of its immense form making contact with the ground.
