Let me take you back to the beginnings of my journey in New York City, where the vibrant energy of the city's streets met the quiet hum of the electronics I would later come to adore. Growing up in the heart of Manhattan was an adventure in itself. The towering skyscrapers, bustling streets, and endless possibilities, I was immersed in the throbbing heart of progress.
My parents, Sarah and David, instilled in me a sense of curiosity and exploration from a young age. My mother, a paediatrician, encouraged my love for science and understanding the intricacies of the world. My father, a musician, introduced me to the magic of creativity. Music often filled our home, and I began to appreciate the beauty of combining various elements to create something unique.
I also had the privilege of growing up with an older brother, Daniel, who introduced me to the world of electronics. I remember watching in awe as he tinkered with circuits, transforming ordinary objects into extraordinary machines. It was from him that my fascination with electronics was born, and I started exploring the world of circuits and soldering.
My teenage years were marked by a personal revelation, as I began to embrace my identity as a gay man. New York City, with its diverse culture and open-mindedness, provided a supportive environment for me to express my authentic self. The LGBTQ+ community became my second family, and it was through their acceptance and love that I found the strength to be unapologetically myself.
I chose to pursue a career in Electrical Engineering, driven by my love for electronics and the desire to be part of the technological innovations that were shaping the future. The field fascinated me, and I excelled in my studies, paving the way for a promising career. As a young engineer, I was committed to ensuring that my work in electrical systems would light up the world.
Outside of my professional life, I found a passion for squash, a sport that resonated with my love for innovation and quick thinking. The fast-paced nature of the game felt like a reflection of my own journey, always thinking on my feet and moving forward.
Through my involvement in the sport, I discovered a close-knit squash community, building friendships and connections that added rich layers to my life. The camaraderie on the court became an extension of the support I found in the LGBTQ+ community, helping me find strength in my authenticity.
Yet, life had its fair share of challenges. I faced prejudices and biases, but every obstacle became an opportunity to advocate for diversity and inclusion. I was determined to break barriers, both as an engineer and as an LGBTQ+ advocate.
Health and well-being became paramount in my life. I embraced a holistic approach, nurturing my body and mind through meditation, yoga, and a commitment to self-care. These practices empowered me to balance my career, hobbies, and relationships more effectively.
My chosen and biological family continued to be sources of love and support, their unwavering encouragement fuelling my drive to excel in my field and live authentically.
In the grand mosaic of my life, I aimed to be a beacon of inspiration for those navigating similar challenges. Through my work as an Electrical Engineer, my love for squash, and my passion for diversity and inclusion, I hoped to leave a lasting impact. My mission was clear: to ensure that the world would shine a little brighter for the generations that followed.
