Let me take you on a journey through the vibrant tapestry of my life, a life that revolves around art, nature, and an enduring commitment to my passions.
My story began in the picturesque town of Asheville, nestled amidst the rolling Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. The lush green landscapes, the melodies of chirping birds, and the scent of wildflowers were my companions during my formative years. Asheville is an artist's haven, a place where inspiration flows as freely as the mountain streams.
Growing up in this idyllic setting, I was immersed in the wonders of nature. My parents, both ardent nature enthusiasts, instilled in me a deep connection to the environment. They often took me on hikes through the Appalachian trails and encouraged my curiosity about the diverse flora and fauna that surrounded us.
Asheville's vibrant art scene added another layer to my upbringing. The town was a hub for artists, musicians, and creatives of all kinds. I spent my weekends attending art festivals, exploring galleries, and soaking in the symphonies of street musicians. The fusion of nature and art became my guiding force.
My childhood was a whirlwind of creativity and exploration. I would spend hours in our backyard, tending to the garden my parents had cultivated. It was here that I discovered my love for landscaping. The act of transforming the earth into a canvas filled with colourful blossoms and serene gardens felt like a sacred ritual.
As I approached college, my fascination with the union of nature and art led me to pursue a degree in landscape architecture at North Carolina State University. My college years were a time of learning and growth, as I honed my skills and developed a deep understanding of the delicate balance between hardscapes and greenery. I was a diligent student, determined to make the most of the opportunities that lay ahead.
Upon graduation, I embarked on my journey as a professional landscaper, creating harmonious outdoor spaces that transported people into a world of natural beauty. The canvas of the earth became my artistic platform, and I revelled in the act of turning visions into reality.
Outside of work, my love for plants took root within the walls of my home. I became a self-proclaimed "plant mom," with over 50 houseplants, each of which held a special place in my heart. From the grand monstera to the delicate fern, my green friends were an extension of my soul. Their names ranged from Daisy to Theodore, and nurturing them was my daily ritual.
The act of nurturing extended to other aspects of my life as well. Battling Crohn's disease for several years taught me the value of resilience. Each morning, I woke up with a sense of gratitude, determined to make the most of the day ahead. Crohn's became my silent companion, a reminder that life's beauty is found not just in the grand moments but also in the small, everyday victories.
To further express my love for the great outdoors, I ventured into abstract landscape painting. My artworks aimed to capture the essence of nature's beauty, translating it onto canvas. These paintings were not just art but a piece of my heart, a way to connect with the environment on a deeper level.
In my free time, I embarked on hikes and nature walks with my loyal companion, Barkley, a Bernese Mountain Dog whose enthusiasm was infectious. We explored the enchanting forests and trails of North Carolina, inspiring new landscape ideas and instilling in me a deep love for the wild beauty of the mountains.
My family, including Barkley, has been my unwavering support system. They've embraced my passions, nurtured my dreams, and made every day in Asheville a celebration of art, nature, and the resilience of the human spirit.
Through the lens of art, the nurturing of plants, and the cultivation of beautiful landscapes, I've discovered the profound beauty and purpose that life holds, despite its challenges. I am Lauren Patel, a woman who believes in making every day bloom with beauty and purpose.
