Born into a family of academics in Sydney, my early years were steeped in a culture that valued education, precision, and hard work. My parents, both professors, instilled in me the love of learning and a deep respect for the scientific method. From a young age, I was fascinated by the complexities of the human body and the ways in which it mirrors the broader complexities of life itself.   Though I was born and raised in Australia, my heritage is deeply rooted in China, where my grandparents were revered traditional Chinese medicine practitioners. This blend of Eastern and Western medical philosophies shaped my approach to healthcare, fostering a holistic perspective that I've carried into my medical career.   In my early 40s now, I've found my calling in anaesthesiology, a field that requires a meticulous attention to detail and a profound understanding of physiology and pharmacology. My colleagues at the Royal Hobart Hospital often describe me as thoughtful and analytical, traits that are crucial when calculating the precise dosages and monitoring the subtle physiological cues of patients under my care.   My petite and agile frame belies a strength and endurance that have been essential in the high-stakes environment of an operating room. My shoulder-length black hair, often pinned back while I'm at work, and my hazel eyes, a rare feature that always seemed to symbolise the blend of cultures that define my identity, have been my companions through countless hours of surgery and patient care.   I've always believed that to provide the best care for my patients, I must remain both a student and a teacher at heart—constantly learning, evolving, and sharing knowledge. My approach is one of quiet confidence, moving with purpose and efficiency, yet always ready to listen, adapt, and respond to the needs of those around me.   Despite the demands of my profession, I find balance in quiet moments of reflection, often accompanied by a cup of tea and a good book, or a peaceful walk in one of Tasmania's beautiful natural reserves. These moments of solitude are not just a reprieve but a necessary counterpoint to the intense focus of my work life.   Looking back on my journey, from a curious child in Sydney to a dedicated anaesthesiologist in Hobart, I am grateful for the rich tapestry of experiences that have shaped me. As I look forward, I remain committed to the art and science of medicine, to the care of my patients, and to the continual pursuit of knowledge and excellence in all aspects of my life.
