Growing up on the sun-kissed coast of Queensland, I was the girl who always had a smile on her face and a willingness to help others. My parents often joked that I was born with an innate sense of empathy, as I'd be the first to offer a comforting hug to my classmates or bring home stray animals in need of care. This nurturing spirit followed me as I grew, guiding me towards a career where I could make a real difference in people's lives.
I chose nursing because it combined my love for science with my desire to connect with and help others. During my nursing studies, I found my true calling in paediatric care. There's something incredibly rewarding about working with children. Their resilience, honesty, and boundless curiosity inspire me every day, and I've dedicated myself to not just treating their illnesses but supporting their overall well-being.
In my early 30s now, I've settled in Tasmania, working at the Royal Hobart Hospital. My curly blonde hair and bright green eyes often make me a memorable figure in the paediatric ward. I like to think my approachable demeanour helps put my young patients and their families at ease during what can be a stressful and scary time.
I've always believed that a good paediatric nurse needs to be part artist, part scientist, and part storyteller. Whether I'm explaining a medical procedure through a playful story or using my clinical skills to provide care, I strive to create an environment where children feel safe, understood, and valued.
Outside of work, I'm an avid nature enthusiast, finding peace and rejuvenation in Tasmania's breathtaking landscapes. These moments of solitude in nature provide me with the balance I need to bring my best self to my patients. I also enjoy volunteering at local community centres, offering my time and skills to support families and children beyond the hospital walls.
My journey has been one of continuous learning, from mastering the complexities of paediatric care to understanding the unique ways children perceive and interact with the world. Each child I care for teaches me something new, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to impact their lives positively. As I look to the future, I'm excited to continue growing, both personally and professionally, in a field that offers endless opportunities to provide care, comfort, and healing.
