The Lonely Walk Home

Detective Lahey walks home alone, grappling with the emotional fallout of the evening's events.

After being dismissed by Detective Karl Jenkins, Detective Sarah Lahey found herself alone in the deserted Entertainment Centre carpark. With a mix of anger and disbelief, she stormed across the concrete expanse, her footsteps echoing in the emptiness. As tears began to roll down her cheeks, Sarah yelled a defiant "screw you" into the night, a release of her pent-up frustration and hurt.
  The walk home felt longer than usual, each step heavy with the weight of her thoughts and the sense of loneliness that enveloped her. Upon reaching her house, Sarah mechanically went through the motions of undressing and showering, the hot water offering little comfort. Exhausted and emotionally drained, she climbed into bed, the room silent save for her uneven breaths. In the darkness of her bedroom, Sarah quietly cried herself to sleep, feeling alone and lost in the aftermath of the evening's tumultuous events.
