Detective Karl Jenkins conducts a solo stakeout at Luke Smith's house, driven by his determination to catch Luke in a criminal act.
Following the denial of his warrant requests, Detective Karl Jenkins takes matters into his own hands. He leaves the station before his partner, Sarah, returns, embarking on a personal mission to stake out Luke Smith's house and catch him in a criminal act that would justify an immediate arrest.
Dressed in dark clothing, Karl parks his car near the river Derwent and walks up the steep Berriedale Road to avoid being conspicuous. He finds a spot among the bushes across from Luke's house and settles in to watch, his mind haunted by visions of the atrocities he believes Luke is capable of.
As the night wears on, Karl's discomfort and impatience grow. He contemplates abandoning his post but is driven by his resolve to bring Luke to justice. The eerie atmosphere, punctuated by imagined sightings of Gladys' mutilated body and a small face peering from the living room blinds, fuels Karl's anger and determination.
