Cloudcatcher Peninsula

Created by

For many centuries, the Cavalans and the Greenwardens lived in peace, with light trade and diplomatic missions crossing between the two nations. Relations turned sour when a small group of humans were found logging in Elven lands, and the elves did not consider the actions taken to prevent more logging were satisfactory. As tensions grew, the Drunalta saw an opportunity to turn Raldruim away from their lands by offering to help them invade the distracted Cavalis. Their coordinated assault caught Cavalis's defenses at Sandbreak Wall off guard, leading to its fall and opening the kingdom to raiding. As the Raldruim invaded, their sorcerers turned once fertile farmland into arid scrubland, both to provide more familiar terrain for them to fall back to, and to make retaken land more difficult to hold.   After several generations of back and forth fighting, generally favoring the invaders, a political shift mended the relationship between Cavalis and the Greenwardens, motivated by the invaders destructive sorcerers reaching the river bordering Elven lands and solidified by the King Camryn's marriage to Archdruid Liada. The Greenwardens have agreed to aid the Cavalian effort to push back the invaders and reclaim their lost territory. A key victory at the river fork has given the people of Cavalis hope for reclaiming the rest of their land and forcing their enemies back to the other side of Sandbreak Wall. However, many have concerns that the tension with the elves will resurface, and others do not like the idea of the newborn Half-Elven crown prince rising to power in the future. Furthermore, Drunaltan backed Cavalians have been caught in the capital and palace grounds, bringing a sense of paranoia and distrust down on the city.   Alongside the major conflict taking place in the region, there is a faction of Dwarven settlers that were forced from their mountain outposts in the Cloudcatcher Mountains near Steelpick to shelter in Cavalis from the invaders. Most returned to Stormpeak, but a few have stayed, refusing to let "squabbles between elves and humans" force them out, and a few even refused to leave the outposts, choosing to dig in and stand their ground. Those who remain in Cavalis are anxious to return to their mines and find what became of their lost kin.   The Greenwardens have recently begun discovering random withered groves among their ancient and otherwise vibrant forest. No explanation has been found, but it is generally agreed that the withering is too far into the forsest to be caused by the Raldruim sorcerers ravaging Cavalis. Between fulfilling their promise to help the humans reclaim farmland and investigating the source of the corruption, the Greenwardens have been stretched thin.   Some Elves born among Greenwardens have talents using arcane magic instead of nature magic, and find themselves outsiders among their own kind. Most of them leave for the Tower of Vision in Stratport, a wizard academy that doubles as a lighthouse for the surrounding dangerous waters. Many types of magic are practiced there, but the Tower is particularly known for divination and illusion magic.   At the mouth of the Summerwine River there is a marshy river delta region called the Halflands that Humans and Elves alike believe to be dangerous, and likely cursed. There are few visitors to the area, but small numbers of Humans and Elves still live in scattered villages throughout the delta. Throughout the dispute between Humans and Elves, the inhabitants have remained neutral, trusting locals from the other race more than their own kind from outside the delta. Telmorden, the largest village in the region, seems to be the source of many of the stories from the Halflands. Despite the proximity of Humans and Elves, the few outsiders who do enter the region have noted a distinct lack of Half-Elves.
