Mechanics & Inner Workings
Sharp Edge
The thin blade bleeds into its serrated edge for a far more devastating cut.Large Flat Face
The tip of the trench knife cannot always retain its sharp point, but the additional mass behind it grants extra force when piercing a target.Serrated Knuckle Guard
A specialized feature to protect the fingers and add force to strikes during hand-to-hand fighting.Manufacturing process
- A rough shape is cut from high quality steel that includes the core of the handle area
- Shape the edges with a grinder
- Heat the blade to a critical temperature and then quench in oil or water to harden
- Temper the blade in an oven to reduce brittleness and improve toughness
- Secure the handle finishing
- Option to attach a pommel spike to the end of the handle
- Smooth any rough edges on the blade and handle
- Polish or coat the blade to protect it from corrosion
Significance
Survival
The knife has been adapted multiple unintended uses by resourceful and desperate soldiers. Soldiers have:- constructed whole campsites using the serrated part as a saw and the blade to dig trenches
- heated the blade in their fires to utilize the flat surface as a portable grill for cooking meat
