Portugal is a country on the Iberian Peninsula in southwestern Europe that includes both the Azores and Madeira archipelagos. The country is one of the oldest on the continent and has gone through many radical cultural shifts since the dawn of civilization. Portuguese influence is found throughout much of Latin America, specifically Brazil . It is a founding member of NATO and a member of the United Nations .
