Xochimilkhan (zho-chee-mill-con)
The axolotl kaiju inhabits the lake of Mexico City, acting as a protector to the axolotl population living in the water.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
The amniotic fluid's near-unlimited evolutionary potential combined with an axolotl's unique biological structure has made Xochimilkhan unlike any other kaiju, in possession of a unique skill set. The kaiju will tackle, grapple, and wrestle opponents with its front arms, even whacking them with its immense tail.
Body Features
The green and orange koi-like splotches on its body fluctuate and change form depending on its mood. When angered, they shift and twist incredibly fast as well as morph and waver when calm.
Facial Features
The limp catfish-esque barbells on its face allow it to sense things in the water around it more effectively. Its thin teeth allow it to tear and shred through metal with ease. Xochimilkhan is also in possession of a long tongue that it uses to tether grab opponents from a distance, similar to that of a frog.
Identifying Characteristics
The name "Xochimilkhan" is a portmanteau of the lake Xochimilco and Khan, in reference to Genghis Khan and his lineage. It was created by a Latino secretary corresponding between Majestic 12 and the White House. Higher-ups at Majestic 12 wanted the L to be removed and left as Xochimikhan, believing the word "milk" in the word would cause the kaiju to be taken less seriously. The secretary refused, and it was passed and finalized under their noses.
Special abilities
Most unique is its ability to purify polluted waters and landscapes. Toxic material from its environment is absorbed through its skin and spat at opponents in the form of a toxic sludge. The stench alone is overpowering, and the material can range from a sticky tar-like substance to a corrosive acid. Though not lethal to kaiju, it can induce sickness and nausea in them. However, it is incredibly toxic to humans and regular organic life. It can also use any water absorbed as a weapon, shooting a powerful water gun at its opponents. It also secretes a layer of slime through its skin to keep cool and transform across rough terrain. Unlike normal axolotl, Xochimilkhan is able to breathe out of water and traverse the land by absorbing oxygen through its skin, bypassing the need for lungs. The axolotl kaiju has also evolved a more omnivorous diet, oddly enough. Like all other kaiju, Xochimilkhan also possesses an advanced healing factor, able to heal broken bones and damaged body parts that would be unsalvagable for normal animals. It can shrug off conventional human artillery and stand up to more unconventional mecha weaponry. Its regenerative healing abilities plus the advanced amniotic-addled DNA - combined with the unparalleled natural regenerative abilities all axolotl have - has made Xochimilkhan immortal, only killable via starvation or another kaiju.

Various factions would settle near and/or along the lake throughout history - such as Teotihuacanos, Toltecs, and Aztecs - to witness the creature in all its glory and utilize the water. Most iconic of them were the chinampa gardens that flourished. As more people settled and populations grew, they discovered the lake's waters had purifying properties. Wounds were cleaned, scars were fully healed, hair regrew upon the balding, bones healed, the sick were cleansed, the blind were bestowed vision, the crippled could walk, the infertile could breed, and even the elderly regained strength and lived twice as long. The health benefits the water provided were viewed as nothing short of miracles, and the giant kaiju was deemed a guardian monster and viewed as a god. Seeking to control more of the lake to maintain supremacy of the lake's resources, the first emperor of the Aztec Empire and the fourth Huēyi tlahtoāni (Aztec King) - Itzcóatl - launched aggressive expansionist military campaigns to take control of the waters. During the heated battles and bloodshed, something agitated the axolotl kaiju and sent it into a furious rage that caused it to attack and destroy the nearby settlements. After the battle, the kaiju left the waters behind and migrated to the north. The Aztecs were forced to rebuild in the wake of its fury and were shocked to find the water's rejuvenating properties faded away in its absence. Many of these legends were ultimately lost with the arrival of the Spanish conquistadores and their pillaging of the native land.
Centuries later, the creature was discovered having buried itself within the Tijuana River, hibernating. With jurisdiction from both the Mexican and United States governments, Majestic 12 built a facility to monitor and study the creature while it rested in the water. Since the 20th Century, the river had become more and more polluted thanks to raw sewage spilling and trash. Over the years it grew worse until the 21st Century, where the kaiju awoke and rampaged out of the facility.
Accomplishments & Achievements
The health benefits caused by the waters Xochimilkhan purifies have been rumored and spread throughout human history for centuries, spawning the legend of the mythical Fountain of Youth. Pre-Mesoamerican tribes sailed across the globe and brought their tales of its healing waters to the Macrobians of Africa, who spoke of the legend to the Greek historian Herodotus. Believing the kaiju was the key to eternal life, many legends attempted to hunt for it as the legend spread throughout the years, such as Alexander the Great andJuan Ponce de León. Preserved water from the lake had been kept in a tight container and taken across the land for millennia, eventually gifted to the young Yeshua of Nazareth during his birth by three travelers who had obtained it long ago. During his visit to Jerusalem, he poured some of the water into a pool and used it to heal a blind man, which onlookers interpreted as a holy act. It was believed that Yeshua drank the last of the water at a supper before his crucifixion, the goblet he used eventually being dubbed the Holy Grail by the Knights Templar. Since then, it has been sought for its importance in both Christian and kaiju history.
Intellectual Characteristics
Xochimilkhan is incredibly simple and fairly docile for the most part. It is indifferent to the presence of humans or other kaiju, merely preferring to live at ease. Though the creature can live quite comfortably upon land, it prefers the comfort of the water. The one surefire thing to agitate the beast is to pollute its water, the monster bursting into an immense fury within the Tijuana River. Only after it had purified the water significantly did it begin to calm. Xochimilkhan typically wanders on all fours for combat but stands on its two back legs for combat purposes. It also possesses very limited animalistic intelligence and lacks higher functionality, which no doubt contributes to its predominantly docile nature.

While it leaves massive destruction in its wake when provoked, its influence on the environment is profound. Its feces is high in protein - both natural and amniotic-addled - and benign nuclear isotopes that - after being absorbed by the soil and filtered into the water - cause immense population booms in the flora and fauna inhabiting its region. Flowering plants and trees will grow wildly, and animals experience high birth rates. Environments in its wake are considered to be some of the cleanest and most immaculate places. Polluted waters can be cleansed in a matter of days if it dwells within them. Fish populations rise exponentially in its wake, and the axolotl began to rise in population. It is expected to be taken off the endangered species list within half a decade. The axolotl kaiju helps maintain the balance of overabundant flora by helping consume them. Even humans receive immense health benefits, as Xochimilkhan's purified and enhanced waters greatly improve human health, lifespan, hair regrowth, bone structure, fertility, muscle growth, and immune systems. It is one of the few kaiju shown to directly benefit humans, albeit inadvertently. However, its presence is not without major setbacks, as the kaiju has returned to Lake Xochimilco to reclaim its land. As a result, millions of people were displaced from Mexico City because of its presence, and military intervention is at an impasse as they avoid both provoking the creature and destroying more of the city.
