Mak'fi Mask Wearing
All of those living in the small town were once known to not now a single feature on their neighbours face. As all wore masks. Most simplistic and others ornate.
The masks were in place as those of Mak'fi thought it rude for one to read another emotions and true meaning by staring at ones face.
Seeing through the tones of a persons voice, picking out those harmonies where truth and deception are sung was seen as the truest way to gather a persons intent.
Most carried a pair of masks, one that was considered their "normal" face and the other was to be worn if a person was angry or upset with the situation. These were sometimes used as voting tools, a persons normal mask meaning agreement and the anger mask as a disagreement.
This only worked in two choice arguments and wasn't as effective when discussions were needed.
In its conception it worked and was welcomed by the townsfolk, especially for those wishing to be more private about their social interactions, and even visiting folk were given masks to be able to trade and and entertain whilst in town.
However it soon became complicated as more and more masks were introduced into the etiquette of their wearing. Love, hate, anger, mourning, the list went on.
People were having to carry several around just in case. Eventually the town came together and made a decision to let their real faces be seen and the masks retired to history.
However on some special occasion's it is common to receive a mask from an elder which these days is considered old fashioned.
There is still a nod of respect towards them and some wealthy folk have elaborate masks made to have as an ornament in their home. But mostly those that remember a time no one knew another's face.
