Gundraoid
In a land where magic is as valuable as gold, the Gundraoid people suffer to survive. They are born civilians who were said to suffer the punishment of Luth, the god of magical power.
Many years ago, powerful magical beings roamed this earth without being scared of punishments or how much magic could be spent. That was, until one day a fire witch decided to burn down an entire village after fighting with her husband. The reasons for the discussion were never told, but it is known that every person in that village argued with one another once the fire started. Luth then showed up and stopped the flow of magic until everyone calmed down. The punishment back then was not harsh as Luth simply tamped down the magic of those civilians a little. The now-known Gundraoids were still able to cast spells and live among everyone else. That was until more fights started happening. Those fights would usually be about gold and storing magic. Being fed up with their village, or what remained of it, Luth made a couple of promises to them: from that moment on, they would be known as the Gundraoid, they would be the only powerless creatures in this world, and they would one day disappear from the world. The last promise is still questionable and remains to be seen.
Naming Traditions
Other names
The Gundraoid civilians are also known as the "unwanted".
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Due to being the least fortunate people in the world, the Gundraoid people never learned to read or write. The way they communicate with one another is through pointing and drawing on the ground.
Shared customary codes and values
Every Gundraoid citizen believes respect, power, and love must be earned. They will work hard to improve themselves, hoping that someday, the gods and goddesses will notice and help them. They are hard workers and when they love, they do it with all of their being.
Everything they do must be done with their hands and on their own merits, as they cannot and will not tolerate "cheating" their everyday life with the help of those who are not their family.
Common Etiquette rules
The Gundraoids are simple beings. They are respectful towards everyone and they never pretend to be anything more than what they are. They bow their heads at the upper-class civilians not only because it is required, but because they truly feel like that is the way to treat one another.
Common Dress code
As a reminder of who they are in society, the Gundraoids are not allowed to wear anything other than hand-me-downs from the workers of the different kingdoms. It is believed that if they were allowed to wear clothes bought by themselves, they would rise in power as a revolution would take place.
Foods & Cuisine
Eating seems to be a privilege for the Gundraoids in this world. On a good day, they might just work the right amount of hours to afford some cheese and juice or milk to accompany their bread and water. On the regular days when work is just not available for them, the respective kingdom provides plain bread sometimes from the day before and limited water.
Funerary and Memorial customs
Whenever a Gundraoid dies, the whole village gets together to mourn the loss in silence. After the sun goes down, the family members will wrap the body with that person's blanket, put their belongings inside the blanket, the burn everything. It is believed that by doing it that way, the soul will cleanse and if reborn, that person will be born in a higher societal class.
Common Myths and Legends
- There is a myth about a man who once wore jewels and fine clothes while still being a Gundraoid, but the story never ends the same way from the mouths of those who tell the story. The only family that knows anything related to this myth refuses to even say the name of this man. The reasons are unknown.
- Speaking to a Gundraoid while being from a working class or a kingdom is said to cause a curse on you and two generations after you, as doing so will anger Luth.
Ideals
Beauty Ideals
Being the outcasts from this world, the Gundraoids view everyone as beautiful as long as their soul is intact. For a soul to be intact, no soul can be taken from another person.
