Firefur Pack
The Hotheaded Warriors of the Wulven People
Pack Description
The hotheaded Wulven who roam the arid climes, the Firefur are a pack with fur that is often bright red or ginger, and is almost always aflame with ethereal fire. They are hotheaded(in many ways) and are always the first to rush headfirst into combat if it means a good fight awaits, though it altogether rare to see a Firefur challenging everyone they meet. To them, "good" fights are things to be savored and chosen carefully, as none want to die in fights beneath them or fights they deem bad or not worth fighting. They are much less competent with wordsmithery and diplomacy than their Wulven cousins, and often leave such things to other packs more suited to such things, while they themselves roam the untamed deserts and flaming wastelands of Ea, delving into even the deepest of Volcanoes with wild abandon. To the reckless Firefur, they are the shining embodiment of the Ideal of "Burn Bright, Burn Short"...their lives are generally the shortest of all the Wulven packs, as they absolutely refuse to censure themselves or hold themselves back in almost any case, though this should not be mistaken for idiocy or lack of self-control. The Firefur are proud and close-knit, and believe with all their heart that their lives, being already short, are best lived to their absolute fullest, whether that means fighting, drinking, or simply enjoying the arts or some other hobby. Whatever they throw themselves into, the Firefur always give all of their being to it with flaming passion, and often dislike those who refuse to give their all or those who act halfheartedly. Despite their lack of skill with words, the Firefur are very, very in tune with the needs of the Wulven species and, while bad at expressing it, are highly protective and intelligent when it comes to protecting their pack, themselves, or the home in which the Wulven live. For this reason, they are excellent and mighty warriors who can come off as hotheaded and brash, but nonetheless greatly treasure their kin and go to great lengths to defend their homes.
Pack Mechanics
Pack Trait: Gain Fire Resistance 5. Any creature that ends their turn adjacent to you takes 1d3 points of fire damage that bypasses immunities and resistances. You cannot be affected by weather effects of any kind due to cold environments.
Their fur constantly smouldering and burning with ephemeral flame, the Firefur are highly resistant to fire and are said to have blood that boils and burns those who strike them...and it is this blood and burning hide that protects them from cold weather of all kinds.
Alternate Pack Traits:
Cindernose: Gain a racial +10 to survival checks made to track all creatures you have dealt fire damage to in the last 24 hours. You automatically know the direction they are in relative to you if they are within 2 miles. Replaces Hunter’s Nose.
A pack closer than any other to flame, ash, and heat, the Firefur have adapted to take full advantage of their fiery makeup as hunters so that their noses can detect the finest traces of burnt flesh and cinders nearby, allowing them to track down foes or creatures that they recently dealt fire damage to within the past day...so finely tuned are their senses that they are said to automatically know the direction towards their target so long as they are near their prey. In this way, their prey has little chance of escape even long after they flee from the fight itself.
Hothead: Gain Ignan as a bonus language. Against non-magical environmental fire damage, your Fire Resistance triples. You gain a racial +4 to intimidate checks. Replaces Last of the Primordials.
As they prowl the deserts, arid climates, and fire-blasted hellscapes of the world, the Firefur often become so inured to scorching hot flame that they learn how to not only speak the language of primordial flame, but take their love of flame and fire and veneration for it to such extremes that they even become capable of wading through lava and open flame without a single mark left upon their fur...a fact which makes these impulsive hotheads even more intimidating than usual.
Master Hunters: Gain a favored terrain as per the ranger class feature. Replaces We Fight, We Drink, We Learn!.
Though not as skilled as their brethren in the Blackclaw pack, the Firefur are nonetheless skilled hunters, their bestial senses and skills tempered and honed within the crucible of flame and heat where many others would collapse from exhaustion. Capable of effortlessly bounding over sand dunes and through Volcanoes, the Firefur are highly respected for their tenacity and dedication to the way of the hunt which more than makes up for their lesser amount of skill in it compared to other packs.
One with the inferno: You may treat all flame damage you deal as nonlethal damage with no penalties. Replaces We fight for the thrill, not the kill.
Where other Wulven packs fight with maw, claw, or even bladed weapons, Firefur embrace their flaming passion and flaming bodies with overwhelming vigor and can, with training, often become so deft in their wielding of the flame that coats their fur, their claws, and beats within their veins that they can scorch their foes without truly harming them, embodying the Wulven ideal of bringing victory without death and embodying the true nature of flame that they believe burns within all of them, a proud and mighty thing that rages wild and free but that can, with practice be utilized and put to use without scorching all who touch it.
Pack Feats:
Ashnose Tracker:
Prerequisites: “Cindernose” Alternate Trait, Character level 6th
Effect: You gain the racial +10 on survival checks from “Cindernose” against targets that have taken fire damage from any source in the past 24 hours, not just you. You automatically know the direction they are in relative to you so long as they on the same plane as you, rather than just 2 miles.
Taking their special senses to even greater heights, some firefur become so adept at sniffing out charred flesh, burnt and charred foes, and fire itself that they become able to detect those scorched by any flame...not just their own. Often seen as a powerful blessing by the pack, these Firefur often become scouts, trackers, and those who head first into the fray to track down their prey and drive them to ground.
Elemental Ally:
Prerequisites: “One with the Inferno” Alternate Trait, Character level 4th
Effect: You may treat all elemental damage you deal as nonlethal damage with no penalties.
The Firefur, being a pack highly in tune with the Elements, live their lives with a large respect for the power of flame, the adaptability of flowing water, the swiftness of rushing air and the durability of immobile earth that often, this veneration for the elements takes their fighting style to new heights as these select few Firefur learn how to manipulate the various elements with as much precision as their Wulven brethren wield their own claws, fighting their foes with elements without truly killing them. Often, this earns them the respect of the various elemental races, as they see the Firefur as using the natural elements to their fullest and most natural state.
Magmafur:
Prerequisites: Character level 8th
Effect: Increased the damage from your pack trait to 1d6 damage instead of 1d3. Additionally, all space within 15 feet of you is treated as difficult terrain and deals 1 point of fire damage to any hostile creature who ends their turn in them.
Though all Firefur are said to be born with fur alight and body smouldering with the passionate flame that burns within them, some Firefur are born or evolve into a new breed: a Wulven with magma that slowly cascades from their massive shoulders and slowly falls down their bodies in a never-ending lavaflow...though it never seems to touch the ground, the immense and overwhelming heat that surroundings these firefur is so intense that simply being near them is difficult, and often blisters the skin and boils the blood.
Flamevein:
Prerequisites: Character level 10th
Effect: Each time you take fire damage, BEFORE any immunities but AFTER resistances apply, you heal for 1/3 of the total damage taken. If you take more than three times your total HD in a single attack that deals fire damage(Or through environmental damage), you must make a will save or erupt with the force of the Fireball spell equal to your level that does not injure you.
As a pack who lives their entire lives, however short they may be, with burning passion and boiling emotion, the Firefur are practically defined by the extremes with which they live their lives. Perhaps naturally thanks to this intense passion, it is little surprise that the blood of some Firefur becomes as white-hot as they themselves are, pulsing through their veins like liquid magma. When struck these Firefur's wounds erupt with the force of a detonating Volcano, showering nearby foes in scorching hot magma.
