Kitsune Alternate Racial Traits
Flametail:You automatically add 1d6 fire damage to any and all natural attacks, and all attacks made with a metallic weapon. Gain or Add 5 Fire Resistance. Replaces Kitsune Magic.
Famous the world over for having tails that are practically concentrated bundle of raw magical power, Kitsune often develop odd quirks or mutations as this power grows and matures, as the magic in their tails can manifest in a myriad of ways. For some, this manifests as the power of burning flame, and their furred tails smoulder unendingly with a gentle but powerful warmth...able to direct this heat into their attacks and even able to heat up metallic weapons they wield, these Kitsune can sometimes have personalities reflective of this...hot-headed, confrontational or even brash.
Glaciertail: You automatically add 1d6 cold damage to any and all natural attacks, and all attacks made with a metallic weapon. Gain or Add 5 Cold Resistance. Replaces Kitsune Magic.
Famous the world over for having tails that are practically concentrated bundle of raw magical power, Kitsune often develop odd quirks or mutations as this power grows and matures, as the magic in their tails can manifest in a myriad of ways. To some Kitsune this raw magical might manifests as bone-chilling cold and a frigid frost that decorates the tips of their tails, as if their tails were great mountains eternally covered in snow. These kitsune give off a powerful chill that can sometimes reflect their personalities...reclusive, quiet, and withdrawn, they take well to the naturally cold environments of the north where their kind make their home.
Bolttail: You automatically add 1d6 electricity damage to any and all natural attacks, and all attacks made with a metallic weapon. Gain or Add 5 Electricity Resistance. Replaces Kitsune Magic.
Famous the world over for having tails that are practically concentrated bundle of raw magical power, Kitsune often develop odd quirks or mutations as this power grows and matures, as the magic in their tails can manifest in a myriad of ways. Manifesting as crackling bolts that crackle up and down their tail or tails like miniature thunderstorms, the kitsune who find their tails becoming electrically charged find it to be a powerful weapon as bolts arc between their myriad tails like furred lightning rods. Able to direct these bolts into their attacks, they wield these bolts deftly when fighting or attacking their foes.
Sonictail: You automatically add 1d6 sonic damage to any and all natural attacks, and all attacks made with a metallic weapon. Gain or Add 5 Sonic Resistance. Replaces Kitsune Magic.
Famous the world over for having tails that are practically concentrated bundle of raw magical power, Kitsune often develop odd quirks or mutations as this power grows and matures, as the magic in their tails can manifest in a myriad of ways. A rare mutation for the Kitsune who often find their tails taking on elemental power, these Kitsune find their tails begin to ever so unnoticeably vibrate and supersonic speeds like tuning forks, their tails giving off intangible sonic energy as if they were giant furred drills. Powerful and rare, these energy is incredibly damaging to foes it strikes, and these Kitsune are often larger than life or over the top to sometimes reflect their sonically charged tails.
Fast Shifter: Using your racial change shape ability is a move action instead of a standard action. Replaces Kitsune magic.
Renowned and, in the past, feared for their shapechanging powers as tricksters and reviled things full of malice, Kitsune are nonetheless powerfully innate shapechangers. Some among them take this to new heights, and find themselves capable of shifting into their fox forms so quickly only the fastest creatures could follow the process in action.
Diverse Skillset: Gain additional skill rank at 1st level and one additional skill rank whenever they gain a level. Replaces Masters of Machination.
Though often masters of machination, politics, and the grand game of nobility, there are many Kitsune who shirk their natural role as Eastern Nobility to pursue more intellectual pursuits, which they believe are lacking in the world of Politics where so much of one's attention is spent scheming and plotting. These Kitsune are more naturally skilled than their peers, and boast a wider array of talents, though they lose the innate talent for Politics and the Grand Game that they once had.
Superior Shapeshifter: Gain Fox Shape as a bonus feat at 1st level, ignoring its prerequisites. Replaces Kitsune Magic.
Rare is the Kitsune born with shapeshifting powers so potent that many would believe they had strode straight out of old fairy tales. Capable of not only disguising their true form but completely altering it until they resemble nothing more than average, mundane foxes. Believed to be particularly powerful tricksters and heralds of malicious accidents in the west, they are treated with great respect in the east, if not for a healthy modicum of suspicion.
Politically Averse: Gain a +4 on Sense Motive and Diplomacy checks, and one is always a class skill for you. Replaces Masters of Machination.
A similar but different mindset of certain Kitsune, the Kitsune who stay in the world of Politics or at least adjacent to it but despise it all the same sometimes do away with the practices of lying and manipulating as others do, and instead meet others face-to-face with respect and charisma.
Innate Chill: Your tail constantly gives off chilling cold. You gain Fire Resistance 10, and are immune to extreme weather conditions in hot environments. Replaces Innate Warmth.
Though many Kitsune reside in the blisteringly cold lands of the Noble Lands and thus are highly resistant to the cold, for the Kitsune that make their homes in the Ursidae Dynasties or, even rarer, as nomads in the Great Southern Desert, the warmth they developed to face the cold winds of the north is now nothing but a hindrance. Soon, they begin to carry an innate chill with them, to keep them cold in lands more arid and hot than their original homes.
Kitsune Idol: Gain a racial +4 to all Perform checks and they are always class skills for you. All charm or compulsion effects you cast have a +2 added to their DC. Replaces Natural Nobility.
The Idol Industry is a well-established institution in the Eastern Imperium, and the spectacular concerts the various groups hold all across the kingdom is the stuff of legend. Not surprisingly, Kitsune, being the highest form of nobility in the east, take to being Idols as naturally as breathing. Their own charisma backed by their inherited divinity from Tamamo, they are very popular idols almost universally, their charms capable of thawing even the most cold hearts.
Tail Masseuse: By spending 10 minutes with a creature held in your tail(s), you can cure 1d6 points of ability damage, heal 2d6 nonlethal damage, provide the benefits of a full nights rest to that creature as if they had slept uninterrupted for 8 hours, or affect them with a charm person spell with no save. You may only provide one of these benefits once a day per creature, and that creature must be willing, unconscious, or restrained and unable to resist. Replaces Fluid Form.
Kitsune tails, being what many believe to be the softest and most heavenly fur in all the world, are a commodity that often goes for a premium rate if it is sold at all. While Kitsune Nobility may believe others of too low a standard or simply dislike the idea of letting anyone else touch them, there are many Kitsune who make fairly lucrative living running Massage Parlors where all who enter are charged but a simple fee so they may experience the soothing, stress-relieving powers of the heavenly fur of a Kitsune's tails. It's not an uncommon saying/belief that to visit one of these massage parlors regularly is enough to extend one's natural lifespan, so warm and pleasant are their massages.
Down to earth: All races who share a common language with you start one step friendlier towards you than normal. Against any effect cast upon you that would return your alignment or surface thoughts to the caster, you are automatically made aware of such attempts and may return any alignment or surface thoughts you wish to them. Replaces Natural Nobility.
Though rare in the current era due to how extremely idolized and cherished the Kitsune species is, there are occasionally those among them who grow up and mature into very collected, approachable, and down-to-earth members of society that the Imperium's citizens and myriad races find very easy to talk to compared to their often haughty or hard to deal with noble kin. As such, almost all these Kitsune meet find them easy to talk to and personable due to how "normal" they are.
Heavyfooted Fox: Gain a racial +4 to CMD. You are no longer affected by magical or non-magical difficult terrain. Replaces Lightfooted Fox.
Where countless Kitsune pride themselves on agility, light footedness and acrobatics, some Kitsune find more assurance and pride in a strong, stable stance. Similar to martial artists, these Kitsune are firm and unyielding, taking much better to staying sturdy on their feet rather than darting around quickly. Sometimes, this stability and even-footedness manifests in their personalities with traits similar to Earth Elementals or similar creatures: Stubborn, stable, and slow to adapt.
Tamamo’s Conquering Gaze: Gain a racial +4 to all Intimidate and Perception checks, and one is always a class skill. Replaces Masters of Machination.
Said to be a sign of royalty, the harsh and piercing gaze some Kitsune are born with signals a future rise in power or prominence, often times. Sharp, unyielding, and domineering, this gaze, when used by proper and true members of nobility, is said to be able to silence others with but a look and cause a low-born or a commoner to fall to their knees in humiliation, overtaken by their own inferiority.
Kitsune Noble: Replaces ability scores with (+2 Intelligence, +2 Constitution, -2 Strength) Modifies ability scores.
Appearing as intelligent as a scholar and as durable as a warrior, Kitsune Noble are born on occasion in forms resembling this description. Though they lack in strength, they make up for this and their lack of natural charisma with wit and guile, as well as a natural durability many other Kitsune lack and envy.
Innate Flamechill: Your tail constantly gives off heat and cold, but not as well as if it did only one. You gain Fire Resistance 5 and Cold Resistance 5, and only suffer ½ the effects/penalties from extreme weather conditions in cold or hot environments. Replaces Innate Warmth
Somewhat of a middle ground between those of their kind that carry an innate burning warmth in them and those who hold an innate frigidity, these rare Kitsune are split between the two and possess both chill and heat inside them, existing in duality and harmony...though this warmth and chill is a bit weaker than their more focused counterparts.
Fox’s Nose: Gain the Scent ability out to 60ft. Replaces Lightfooted Fox.
The natural evolution of a race of shapeshifters who are commonly seen as mischievous fox spirits, the fox's nose is a mutation among the Kitsune that causes them to develop a highly refined sense of smell as accurate and powerful as an animal.
Propelling Tail: Gain a +4 racial bonus on Fly checks, and may hover in place for a number of rounds per day equal to (1 + DEXMOD). Replaces Lightfooted fox.
Though it takes some concentration and is seen as somewhat odd of an ability, there are some Kitsune who develop such powerful control over their Tails that they can use them to hover in place and assist them in flight somewhat as well.
Tamamo Conduit: Once per day, you can regain an expended spell slot you have cast of either 1st or 2nd level. Replaces Fluid Form.
Just as each of Tamamo's divine tails is filled with a different level of magical power each stronger than the last, the rare and blessed Kitsune who is born with a sliver of this power is almost predestined for splendid heights in their life. Their tails naturally store latent magical power, which allows these powerful Kitsune to recharge their innate arcane spellcasting with the energy gathered from their tails once a day. More than any other sign, this is seen as a sign of partial divinity on top of nobility and these Kitsune often become the new leaders of their houses.
Tail Grappler: Gain a tail attack appropriate for your size as a primary natural attack. If you possess any other natural attack from other sources, it is a secondary attack. Gain the ‘Grab’ universal monster rule for this tail attack and any others you may acquire. Replaces Fluid Form.
A technique used by the more martially-inclined Kitsune who learn to strike out with their tail(s) and attack their foes with them, these Kitsune also in time learn to wrap their tails around those they strike and pull them in close, grappling them and holding them close as they continue their assault.
Featherfooted Fox: Gain Air Step as a spell-like ability 3/day, and gain Air Walk as a spell like ability 1/day. Replaces Lightfooted fox.
Yet another odd blessing said to stem from the overwhelming arcane power of the Kitsune Queen that pumps through the veins of all Kitsune, this blessing allows them to trod upon air as easily as walking on land and lets them control their falls into more manageable speeds.
Genetic Destiny:
Treat your Charisma score as 3 points higher than normal for all sorcerer spells and class abilities so long as you possess either the [Destined] or [Celestial] bloodlines. If you possess the [Charm] domain, you cast all such domain powers and spells at +2 caster level. Replaces Kitsune Magic.
Little is known as to the specifics of the "arcane might" that flows through the blood of the Kitsune people. While it's commonly accepted that such power is due to their connection to Tamamo and her divinity, little is truly known about it or its specifics, for to defile the living or even dead body of a Kitsune is heresy of the highest order in the East...even the bodies of the dead Kitsune often vanish as they are reincarnated into new lives, making this study even harder. What is known, however, is that Kitsune universally take to sorcery easier than an other people, and some in particular take this ability to such heights they become titans of their respective bloodlines.
Kitsune Nobility: May start two categories higher on the “Kitsune Age Categories” chart without taking drawbacks, Gain Tamamo’s Conquering Gaze and Tamamo’s Conduit. Racial Level Adjustment Becomes 1. Replaces Masters of Machination and Natural Nobility.
While many aspire to claim the title, no creatures in the east hold a candle to the true Kitsune Nobility. Haughty, proud, and strong beyond words, these Kitsune are paragons of their kind and sit at the top of Eastern Society as its nobility.
