The Ballad of Gail-Idhren
A ballad of the first and only High King of the Elves, Gail-Idhren
Gail-Idhren was an Elven King,
A star of light with wisdom keen;
His realm and he was fair and free,
As none before or since shall be.
His armor gleamed and his helm shone bright,
His sword and lance flashed with silver light.
A beacon was he, who towered far and high,
The great star ocean reflected in his eyes.
With flashing blade and piercing strike,
Did the son of Nindir break through strife.
His tongue lacquered silver and spoke with pride,
No conflict stayed when he spoke his mind.
A star that fell to earth to guide the land,
And o'er time his soul shone grand.
A mighty king with mighty realm,
That stretched from Mountains to the western helm.
From forests green and sands of gold,
His lands were far, and fair, and long foretold.
With wisdom and might he saved his kin,
Who fled and ran from El-Adri's sins.
Yet soon his star did flicker and wane,
Its light exhausted, and its glory slain;
With a final roar and mighty cry,
Did Gail-Idhren return to the sky.
Even now, he watches us still,
The shining star o'er northern hills.
And though his armor is dull and his weapons break,
His promise shall he never forsake.
