Donner's Band

This is a well known troop of mercenary horse. The troop consists of anywhere from 50 to 150 troops consisting of both heavy horse and horse archers. The troop also employees three mages including Donner's wife and his sister-in-law. The troop has a a reputation for being tough, competent and well-trained.

Composition

Typically this unit is made up of two-thirds heavy cavalry and one third horse archers supported by three mages.

Weaponry

The heavy cavalry wears plate armor or scale mail. They use lances as their primary weapon with swords, battle axes and maces serving as secondary weapons. They typically have studded leather barding on their horses. The horse archers wear studded leather armor, use short bows and typically carry sabers. The archer favor metal helmets with hose guards and a chain mail neck piece.

Structure

Commander Donner has overall command assisted by three lieutenants. His wife supervises the other two mages, although this more of a collaborative then command relationship.

Tactics

The troop typically uses archery and magic to break up enemy formation then crushes them with massed charges by the heavy cavalry.

Training

The band is highly trained usually forming 25 member sub-units. The heavy cavalry forms tight formations fighting in close order. The light cavalry typically operates along the flanks or the heavies or by firing over their heads. The archers will mass or fight in loose skirmish order depending on the mission. The will particularly try to identify and shoot down enemy spell casters.
